Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking a Journeyman Painter to perform skilled painting and coating work on buildings, furniture and equipment in Oakland Park. You will read blueprints, prepare surfaces, mix and apply primers and finishes, and operate ladders, scaffolds and power equipment with a strong emphasis on safety.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, an apprenticeship, and a valid Florida driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved GED.
• Satisfactory completion of Broward County School District's Painters' Apprenticeship Program.
• Ability to read blueprints; estimate materials, supplies, and costs.
• Ability to assume responsibility and follow instructions. Knowledge of painting prep, practices and tools.
• Ability to caulk, glaze, mix and match painting surfaces; climb and work from scaffolding and ladders; operate hi-lifts/boom trucks.
• Knowledge of waterproofing for buildings; line marking and sign work.
• Valid Florida driver's license; pre-employment drug/alcohol testing; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Receive daily work assignments for painting and/or glazing.
• Review work orders with supervision to determine materials and methods.
• Prepare job sites for safe working conditions and protect floors and furniture.
• Prepare surfaces: wash, scrape, sand, caulk, patch; apply primer and paint.
• Operate brushes, rollers, spray equipment; maintain tools.
• Assist apprentices and laborers as assigned; inform supervisor of supplies.
• Complete projects in a competent, safety-minded manner; report needs.
• Participate in training to improve skills; follow safety procedures.
