Job summary

Dynetek Solutions is seeking a Fiber Lineman to install, maintain, and repair aerial and underground fiber facilities, following NESC and safety standards. You will work as part of a crew, operate bucket trucks, read prints, and ensure high-quality splicing and testing.

Senior level duties include leading crews, performing advanced splicing, mentoring apprentices, and assisting the foreman, with travel across the Atlantic and Gulf regions as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of verifiable fiber optic/telecommunications line construction experience.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Fiber Lineman is responsible for the installation, placement, maintenance, and repair of aerial and underground fiber optic mainline and service drop facilities. Working as part of a construction crew, the Fiber Lineman safely operates equipment and tools to build reliable fiber networks in accordance with company standards, the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and all applicable safety regulations. Senior-level Linemen are expected to demonstrate advanced technical proficiency and may provide guidance and direction to crew members and apprentices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Fiber Placement: Place, install, and maintain aerial and underground fiber optic cable, including ADSS, mainline, and service drop facilities.
  • Splicing & Termination: Perform fusion and mechanical fiber splicing; prepare, terminate, and test fiber optic cables to meet quality and performance standards.
  • Aerial Work: Safely climb poles and operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, and aerial lifts to perform overhead placement and pole-top work.
  • Underground Work: Support trenching, directional boring, conduit/duct installation, and cable pulling for underground fiber placement.
  • Plans & Prints: Read and interpret construction prints, staking sheets, maps, and work orders to execute builds accurately.
  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Perform OTDR/OLTS testing and troubleshooting to verify network integrity and resolve issues on new and live fiber.
  • Equipment: Operate and maintain trucks, trailers, and construction equipment; conduct daily inspections and report deficiencies.
  • Safety: Follow all OSHA, NESC, company, and client safety standards; conduct job hazard analyses and participate in daily safety briefings.
  • Restoration: Support emergency storm restoration efforts across the Atlantic and Gulf regions as needed.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete daily production reports, as-built documentation, and timesheets.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and properly handle fiber optic materials and equipment.
Additional Responsibilities (Senior Level)
  • Serve as lead Lineman on assigned crews, providing technical direction and on-the-job training to apprentices and junior crew members.
  • Perform complex high-count and mid-sheath (ring-cut) splicing and live fiber splicing with minimal service disruption.
  • Assist the Foreman with daily planning, quality control, material management, and crew coordination.
  • Mentor crew members on safety practices and proper construction techniques.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Mid-Level: 2-4 years of verifiable experience in fiber optic / telecommunications line construction. Senior: 5+ years of progressively responsible experience, including crew leadership.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Class A or B - or the ability to obtain one within a defined timeframe of hire.
  • OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 30 preferred for Senior level).
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and awareness of hazards within the energized power zone.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, staking sheets, sag charts, construction prints, and written instructions.
  • Proficiency with fiber splicing and the operation of fusion splicers and OTDR/OLTS test equipment.
  • Ability to render first aid, CPR, and pole-top rescue (training provided where required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fiber optic certification such as FOA CFOT, BICSI, or equivalent.
  • Experience with ADSS placement and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) construction.
  • Hands-on experience with Fujikura fusion splicers and EXFO test equipment.
  • Experience with horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and underground utility installation.
  • Prior experience supporting major carriers or storm/emergency restoration work.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather.
  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work at heights for extended periods (8-10+ hours per day).
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally more with assistance.
  • Climb poles and ladders and work safely from aerial lifts and bucket trucks.
  • Travel to and work at job sites throughout the service territory; overnight travel may be required.
  • Available for occasional night, weekend, on-call, and emergency restoration work as required by project schedules.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times on the job site.
