Job summary

Decatur Utilities is seeking a Journeyman Lineman to construct, repair and maintain overhead and underground distribution lines in the local service area. The role includes working with transformers, sub-transmission lines, and energized line work while following NESC standards and safety protocols.

The candidate will read blueprints and work orders, interact with customers, and may take lead responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum 6-8 years related electric utility experience.
• 4 years as Lineman Apprentice.

Responsibilities

• Constructs and repairs overhead and underground distribution lines.
• Installs and repairs service lines for residential, commercial, and industrial customers according to NESC and electric construction standards.
• Installs and repairs transformers.
• Constructs and repairs 46kv sub-transmission lines.
• Performs energized line work on 17 kv and below.
• Operates and maintains specialized line construction and rigging equipment.
• Uses specialized test equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, phasing meters and ohmmeters.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings and work orders.
• Communicates with customers and investigates trouble calls.
• May be assigned lead responsibilities in absence of lead lineman.

Education

High School diploma or GED

6-8 years related electric utility experience

Lineman Apprentice 4 years
