Job summary

Decatur Utilities is seeking a Lineman to provide customer electric service by constructing, maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting overhead and underground distribution systems at the Central Parkway Service Center. You will work under the General Construction Supervisor in the Electric Operations department.

Applicants should have 6–8 years in electric utility work (4 years as Lineman Apprentice), and hold a Class A CDL with Journeyman Lineworker Certification, CPR/First Aid, and strong

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 6-8 years in electric utility, 4 years as Lineman Apprentice.
• Ability to read and follow safety rules, codes, drawings and procedures.
• Able to write routine reports and communicate with customers and teams.
• Valid Alabama Class A CDL license; Journeyman Lineworker Certification; CPR/First Aid.
• Customer service skills and safety training.

Responsibilities

• Constructs and repairs overhead and underground distribution lines.
• Installs and repairs residential, commercial, and industrial service lines per NESC and standards.
• Installs and repairs transformers.
• Constructs and repairs 46kV sub-transmission lines.
• Performs energized line work on 17 kV and below.
• Operates and maintains line construction and rigging equipment.
• Uses voltmeters, ammeters, phasing meters and ohmmeters.
• Reads blueprints, drawings and work orders.
• Reads traffic control manuals used by Decatur Utilities.
• Trains Apprentice Linemen and Crewmen with emphasis on safety and quality.
• Communicates with customers and investigates trouble calls.
• Assesses work situations to ensure safety policies are followed.
• May lead in absence of lead lineman.
