Job summary

United Utility Services in Burnsville, NC seeks a Journeyman Lineman to ensure safe, reliable electricity delivery nationwide. Under Foreman supervision, you will install, troubleshoot, repair and remove overhead and underground distribution lines, operate bucket trucks and related equipment, and mentor apprentices as needed.

Minimum 4 years’ experience on energized high-voltage lines, valid CDL-A, and strong safety and communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• HIGH school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum 4 years' experience working on energized high-voltage lines.
• Valid CDL-A license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to read technical information, manuals, maps and diagrams.
• Ability to communicate in English, both oral and written.
• Willingness to train for foreman responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Obey safety policies and procedures as per the safety manual.
• Identify and use materials to install and transfer equipment per standards.
• Follow switching orders to transfer or de-energize loads with proper clearances.
• Troubleshoot and repair operational malfunctions.
• Provide on-the-job training for groundman, operators and apprentices.
• Inspect equipment and initiate repairs or testing as required.
• Install, troubleshoot and remove distribution equipment (transformers, regulators, switches, etc.).
• Use hot line tools safely and operate equipment per safety rules.
• Work on energized lines using proper procedures and safety rules.
• Operate all standard field equipment per relevant standards.
• Organize inspections, records and supplies including testing tools.
• Climb structures/poles and work from aerial platforms safely.
• Supervise teams; may assume Foreman responsibilities when needed.
• Differentiate between poles, wire, insulators and other materials.
• Adapt to new technology and tools as required.
• Know and follow 811 excavating laws and related regulations.
• Operate equipment to locate underground lines.
• Complete Pole Top Rescue as required.
• Possess own basic hand tools.
