Capstone Mechanical, LP. in Iowa City, IA is seeking a Journeyman HVAC Technician to install and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems at the Iowa City facility.

The role includes boilers, pumps, chillers, hydronic equipment, and related accessories; you will test data, analyze performance, and provide customer recommendations. You will monitor equipment, perform routine repairs, inspect systems, and ensure safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years of HVAC level operation, maintenance & repair experience.
• Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques, electrical circuits and wiring, operating principles of motors, and local electrical codes.
• Communicate effectively with internal team and customers.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Diagnose and resolve problems, read blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material, and perform math.
• Ability to use hand and power tools.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, evaluate, and troubleshoot condition of operating equipment and controls to ensure safe operation and life cycle performance.
• Perform routine repairs to pump seals, bearing, etc.
• Inspect and test systems to verify compliance with plans and detect malfunctions.
• Determine customer concerns with current HVAC systems.
• Comply with safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.
• Discuss malfunctions with customers to isolate problems or verify corrections.
• Record and report faults, deficiencies, and unusual occurrences, including time and materials from work orders.
• Test pipes or tubing joints for leaks.
• Adjust system controls to manufacturer-recommended settings to balance the system.
• Install auxiliary components like valves, ducts, pipes, and dampers following blueprints.
• Assist with other work with repair and maintenance teams.
• Install, connect, and adjust thermostats, humidistats, and timers.
