Job summary

UMC is seeking an HVAC Technician in Lynnwood, WA to install, maintain, and repair a wide range of equipment including refrigeration, boilers, and heat pumps. You will read electrical schematics, interpret safety and maintenance documents, and troubleshoot complex systems to ensure reliable operation.

Qualified candidates will have at least two years of hands-on HVAC repair experience, EPA Universal Certification, and CFESA training.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience repairing gas, electrical, steam and/or refrigeration equipment.
• Able to read electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints.
• EPA Universal Certification and related training.

Responsibilities

• Perform installs, repairs, and maintenance on HVAC equipment including refrigeration and heating units.
• Read schematics and use gauges, charts, and meters to diagnose issues.
• Troubleshoot advanced electrical and control systems and verify proper operation.

Position Summary

The HVAC Technician is responsible for performing installs, repairs, and maintenance on a variety of equipment including refrigeration, air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, hermetic compressors, commercial furnaces, boilers, burners, intake and exhaust fans, economizers, humidifiers, capacity controls, semi-hermetic compressors, split systems, flame safeguard controls, air compressors, and air driers.

Compensation

Compensation is paid in accordance with the union pay scale.

Position Requirements

1. Able to read electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints.
2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
3. Ability to run copper piping and PVC.
4. Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
6. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
7. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers.
8. Understands and has mastered refrigeration cycles, diagnosing and correcting problems, using manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature chart and temperature measuring devices.
9. Understands refrigeration recovery, evacuation, charging, and refrigerant piping installation and sizing.
10. Understands heating cycle, diagnosing problems, using gas pressure test and other devices for maintenance and troubleshooting.
11. Understands and has mastered electron theory, AC and DC currents, single phase and three phase circuits, series and parallel circuits.
12. Ability to read advanced wiring diagrams.
13. Knowledge of Ohm's Law.
14. Ability to use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values.
15. Must be able to troubleshoot advanced electrical circuits.
16. Understands fundamentals of temperature and humidity measurement and control in air conditioning units.
17. Understands the process of treating air to simultaneously control its temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and distribution.
18. Ability to use psychrometric charts to determine the results of mixing air with various properties.
19. Understands and has mastered all types of HVAC systems and how each component operates in conjunction with others, impacting overall system operations. These include air‑cooled, water‑cooled, hot water, chilled water, VAV, steam heating, and building automation control systems.
20. Knowledge of Windows operating systems.
21. Knowledge of advanced heat load/loss calculations.
22. Knowledge of advanced cooling load calculations.
23. CFESA certification and related training.
24. At least two years of experience repairing gas, electrical, steam and/or refrigeration equipment.
25. EPA Universal Certification.
