The Journeyman Fire Sprinkler Fitter plays a vital role in building and maintaining integrated fire sprinkler systems, working from detailed CAD designs to ensure compliance with NFPA codes and high standards of workmanship. Responsibilities
  • Interpret and implement fire sprinkler system designs, including pipe routing, sizing, and head placement in accordance with NFPA codes.
  • Select appropriate types and sizes of pipe, fittings, supports, and related materials based on project specifications.
  • Inspect work sites to identify potential obstructions and ensure structural integrity during installation.
  • Plan and execute installation or repair work to avoid conflicts with other trades and minimize disruptions.
  • Cut, thread, fabricate, assemble, and install metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, and CPVC piping.
  • Connect pipes using threaded, grooved, or cemented joints and secure them with brackets, clamps, and hangers.
  • Test completed systems for leaks by increasing pressure and monitoring gauges.
  • Supervise and train apprentices, assign tasks, and provide direction on job sites.
  • Coordinate with other trades, address on-site issues, and resolve problems as they arise.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company and industry standards.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Journeyman's License in Fire Sprinkler Protection required.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction documents, and safety instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and direct apprentices and other team members.
  • Proficient in basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and understanding of rates and ratios.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally; ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and work in various environments.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
