Job summary

The Iowa National Guard at Mount Pleasant is seeking a full-time Journeyman licensed Electrician to maintain the campus electrical system and low voltage networks, including radios, network switches, and fiber optics. A valid Journeyman’s license is required.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, installing high voltage and low voltage systems, and supervising incarcerated individuals during work while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time electrical work in residential or commercial buildings (as described).
• Successful completion of an electrician program at an accredited trade school.
• Three years of education and/or full-time experience; one semester of electrician program equals six months.
• Successful completion of three years of an approved electrician apprenticeship program.
• Current, continuous experience in state service including two years as a Trades Helper with electrical duties.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints/schematics.
• Install/maintain high voltage systems.
• Research needed parts and maintain inventory.
• Install/maintain conduit systems.
• Install/maintain low voltage systems.
• Use ladders, lifts, and power equipment safely.
• Maintain a neat and sanitary work environment.
• Supervise/train incarcerated individuals while work is performed.
• Demonstrate electrical troubleshooting skills and strong time-management.
