CoolSys in Catonsville, MD, is seeking a skilled HVAC Construction Technician to support project execution. The ideal candidate will have over 3 years of experience in commercial HVAC construction, capable of reading blueprints and overseeing job-site safety.

Responsibilities

• Provide support on HVAC construction jobs by reading and interpreting blueprints for the foreman to ensure timely and quality completion.
• Lay out roof penetrations and ducting, and sheet metal fittings as directed by the foreman.
• Assist the Construction foreman as needed on the job.
• Coordinate and follow job schedules, labor hours, and material costs.
• Apply knowledge of electrical systems to wire installations.
• Apply carpentry skills.
• Operate plumbing and pipe fitting tasks for refrigeration equipment.
• Read blueprints for refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing.
• Hang evaporation coils and install overhead hangers.
• Use hand and power tools; demonstrate good mechanical skills.
• Understand job‑site safety; oversee work to ensure safe practices and compliance with safety rules.
• Work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

Education / Training

• High school diploma or GED, plus equivalent work experience and trade or technical school classes.
• License as a Journeyman to meet state requirements.

Work Experience / Skills

• 3+ years in the construction industry with hands‑on field experience in commercial HVAC construction and major market remodeling.
• Knowledge of UMC/SMACNA requirements.
• Knowledge of commercial HVAC construction products and tools.
• Knowledge of refrigeration equipment.
• Knowledge of blueprints, detailing HVAC duct fittings.
• Good driving record.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Skill to grease duct weld and complete minor electrical installation.
• Ability to complete sheet metal layouts and fabrications; good mechanical skills.
• Ability to understand and follow all company policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.
• Ability to use typical business tools including e‑mail, Word, Excel, etc.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in convenience stores, grocery stores, food service, construction environments, and at heights from ladders or scissor lifts. Repeated exposure to refrigeration/HVAC equipment and extreme cold or high heat from brazing occurs. Outdoor conditions include inclement weather, heat, humidity, dust. PPE and safe work practices are required.

This position is active and physically demanding, requiring walking, standing, driving, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, use of hands, and lifting up to 25 pounds, occasionally 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception.
