Responsibilities

• Provide support on HVAC construction jobs by reading and interpreting blueprints as needed by the foreman to ensure a timely and quality completion of the project.
• Lay out roof penetrations and ducting, and lay out sheet metal fittings as directed by the foreman.
• Assist the construction foreman as needed on the job.
• Coordinate and follow job schedules (labor hours, material costs).
• Apply knowledge of electrical systems, wire installations, carpentry, refrigeration systems, piping and plumbing.
• Read blueprints for refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing.
• Hang evaporation coils and install overhead hangers.
• Use hand and power tools, demonstrating good mechanical skill.
• Understand and enforce job‑site safety, overseeing work activities to ensure safe work practices and compliance with safety rules.
• Work independently without constant supervision.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, equivalent work experience and trade or technical school classes.
• License as a Journeyman to meet state requirements.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry, with hands‑on field experience in commercial HVAC construction and major market remodeling.
• Knowledge of UMC/SMACNA requirements, commercial HVAC products and tools, and refrigeration equipment.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints and detailing HVAC duct fittings.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Ability to grease duct weld and complete minor electrical installation.
• Ability to complete sheet metal layouts and fabrications with good mechanical skills.
• Familiarity with company policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.
• Proficiency in typical business tools including email, word processing, and spreadsheets.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role operates in convenience stores, grocery stores, food service and construction environments, requiring work at heights from ladders and/or scissor lifts. Mechanical rooms may involve elevated noise levels.

Workers regularly work near refrigeration/HVAC equipment, exposing them to extreme cold from refrigerant and heat from brazing operations. The job routinely involves outside conditions such as inclement weather, heat, humidity, and dust. Use of the correct personal protective equipment and safety‑practices is required.

This position is very active and requires excellent stamina. Employees regularly walk and stand for long periods, hear, drive, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, use hands and fingers, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
