Job summary

The University of Houston seeks a Facilities Electrician to maintain electrical service for university buildings, inspect and repair distribution panels, and manage emergency power circuits. You will complete work orders and coordinate with outside suppliers to restore power after outages.

Required are a Texas Journeyman Electrical license, a valid Texas driver’s license, and a high school diploma or GED; background checks are required due to security-sensitive responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and repairs electrical service within buildings, including electrical distribution, branch circuits, associated breakers and distribution panels.
• Inspects and repairs emergency power circuits within buildings, to include distribution and branch circuits.
• Repairs/replaces damaged or faulty electrical devices in electrical distribution throughout buildings, e.g., breakers, wiring, controllers, outlets, lights.
• Completes work orders, emergency tickets and preventative maintenance assignments.
• Coordinates with outside electrical supplier (HL&P) to ensure power lines are clear of obstacles; coordinates with suppliers and contractors to restore overhead power.
• Serves on special task force during emergencies (floods, storms, hurricanes).
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Description

Under general supervision, maintains electrical service to university owned buildings. Maintains branch circuits for convenience outlets, lighting, motors and controllers. Maintains emergency power circuits. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma Or GED Required
• Requires State of Texas Journeyman Electrical license.
• THIS JOB REQUIRES A VALID TEXAS DRIVER'S LICENSE.
• MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience. Education verification will be conducted upon acceptance of an employment offer.
• Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.
