Job summary

Anschutz Exploration Corporation in Denver seeks an experienced accounting professional to manage JIB closes, overhead accounting, and journal entries for drilling, completion, and major construction projects. You will handle AFE reclasses, cash receipts, and monthly reconciliations with strong Excel proficiency and attention to detail.

Collaboration with Operations, Land, and Financial Reporting is essential as you drive process improvements, ensure internal controls, and support audits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 6 years of oil and gas accounting experience.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills; detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency in Excel; W Energy is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Execute monthly Joint Interest Billing (JIB) close process.
  • Bill out OEE insurance costs.
  • Overhead accounting for drilling, completion, and major construction projects.
  • Create and upload journal entries including payroll, correcting, and reclassification entries.
  • Enter and apply cash receipts.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations.
  • Update allocation groups and cost centers.
  • Handle the AFE reclass process.
  • Process and document material transfers across field and vendor locations.
  • Assist with joint interest partner audits and respond to audit inquiries.
  • Prepare and post quarterly Asset Retirement Obligation entries.
  • Perform physical inventory counts at field and vendor sites.
  • Support interim and year-end financial audit processes with documentation and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Land, and Financial Reporting to resolve discrepancies.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements in accounting workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company accounting policies.
  • Maintain documentation to support journal entries and balances.
  • Lead special projects as required.

Description
  • Execute monthly Joint Interest Billing (JIB) close process
  • Bill out OEE (Operating Expense and Equipment) insurance costs
  • Overhead accounting for drilling, completion, and major construction projects
  • Create and upload journal entries including payroll, correcting, and reclassification entries
  • Enter and apply cash receipts
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations
  • Update allocation groups and cost centers
  • Handle the AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) reclass process
  • Process and document material transfers across field and vendor locations
  • Assist with joint interest partner audits and respond to audit inquiries
  • Prepare and post quarterly Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) entries
  • Perform physical inventory counts at field and vendor sites
  • Support interim and year-end financial audit processes with documentation and reconciliations
  • Collaborate with Operations, Land, and Financial Reporting departments to resolve discrepancies
  • Identify and recommend process improvements in accounting workflows
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company accounting policies
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation to support journal entries and account balances
  • Lead special projects as required.
Requirements
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict monthly close deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office Suite applications (Word, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with oil & gas accounting systems
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, especially for working with internal teams and joint interest partners
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Team-oriented and collaborative, with the ability to work across disciplines such as Operations and Land
Education And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in oil and gas accounting
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Self-starting, detailed, results-oriented team player
  • Strong organizational skills with significant attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; W Energy is a plus

Benefits and Anticipated Compensation

This role is eligible for both short- and long-term incentive opportunities. AEC offers a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, employer paid life and disability insurance coverage, a 401(k) plan with company match, and wellness support.

The starting rate for this position is expected to be between $100,000 to $110,000, based on experience, qualifications, and internal pay alignment. Final compensation may vary from this range depending on a variety of factors, including a candidate’s education, skills, prior experience, and evolving market conditions. This range represents Anschutz Exploration's good‑faith estimate of the pay for this role at the time of posting.
