Job Summary

The Machinist/Tool and Die Maker machine precision components to tight tolerances, utilizing standard tool room equipment in a job shop environment. Responsibilities include assembling tools, fixtures, and machinery with regard to fit, form, and function.

Responsibilities

• Construct new tools and dies as required.
• Review drawings and specifications.
• Design jigs and fixtures.
• Plan and implement order of operation to manufacture parts.
• Calculate speeds, feed, and depth of cut.
• Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, gauge pins, and other tools.
• Machine parts to tight tolerances (0.005) and required surface finish.
• Repair and maintain production tools and dies.
• Troubleshoot tooling equipment and repair as required.
• Modify dies to conform to engineering changes.
• Work to blueprints, sketches, written and verbal instructions, and basic GDT.
• Set up and operate machines: drill press, engine lathe, milling machine (knee and bend), surface grinder, ID/OD grinder, honing machine, and CNC lathes & mills or basic programming using G code or conversational logic.
• Handle confidential information on a regular basis.
• Take on and complete any work that is assigned by the tool room area or shift leaders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 5 years’ experience in a machine shop environment.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM and G code programming.
• Must have all basic tools such as calipers, micrometers, and indicators.
• Ability to understand and follow English instructions.
• Good basic math and algebra skills.
• Ability to manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as required.
• Ability to use computer and software as required.
• Experience working with blueprints and sketches.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 70 pounds; transfer 50-100 pounds with the help of another person.
• Must be able to bend, squat, twist, and kneel.
• Ability to use hand and power tools.
• Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
