Job summary

Melwood is seeking a Job Developer to support Building Paths graduates with job development, placement, and alumni follow-up in the DC/MD region.

You will build relationships with employers, provide resume and interview coaching, coordinate job fairs, and maintain accurate program data in the ETO system while guiding participants to employment goals.

Minimum 3 years in workforce development and strong MS Office skills are expected; bachelor's preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or vocational/technical training preferred; high school diploma with 2–3 years' relevant experience acceptable.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in workforce development, human services, employment services, or related field.
  • Strong Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint; ability to manage data in the ETO system and basic computer literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to the business community to identify employment opportunities and advocate for candidate interviews.
  • Provide job development and placement support, including resume development, interview prep, mock interviews, and onboarding coordination.
  • Organize and coordinate job fairs at Melwood campuses and external events; maintain employer relationships.
  • Identify alumni seeking job development services and provide ongoing follow-up to support career goals.
  • Assist participants with Career Development Plans and monitor progress.
  • Enter and maintain participant and program data in the ETO system.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the Building Paths program and relationships with participants and alumni.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Workforce Development & Innovation.

Description

The Job Developer supports Building Paths graduates with job development, employment placement, and ongoing alumni support throughout the DC/MD region. This position builds relationships with employers and community partners, provides career development and job-search assistance, and supports graduates for up to one year following program completion. The role also assists with workforce development activities and maintains accurate participant and program data in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) system.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts outreach to the business community to identify employment opportunities, primarily within the building trades, construction industry, and related career fields. Advocates for candidate interviews and employment opportunities with prospective employers and provides education and guidance to employers regarding the benefits of hiring a diverse workforce.
  • Provides Building Paths graduates and alumni with job development and placement support, including job-search assistance, resume development and revision, interview preparation, mock interviews with business partners, and onboarding support in coordination with employers.
  • Assists the Program Coordinator with organizing and coordinating job fairs at Melwood campuses and participates in external job fairs to expand business contacts and professional networks. Maintains ongoing outreach to develop and strengthen employer relationships and delivers presentations on the Building Paths program, graduate qualifications, and workforce readiness.
  • Identifies alumni seeking job development services and provides ongoing follow-up to support their career goals. Conducts monthly outreach to employed alumni to provide support, confirm job retention, identify challenges, and assist with resolving employment-related concerns.
  • Assists participants with developing, implementing, and updating Career Development Plans (CDPs), including establishing employment goals and objectives, monitoring progress, and evaluating goal attainment.
  • Enters, updates, and maintains accurate participant and program data related to Career Development Plans, job development activities, employment placements, promotions, and other required outcomes in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) data management system.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the Building Paths program and establishes and maintains effective relationships with current participants and program alumni.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Workforce Development & Innovation.

Education:

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or vocational/technical training.
Required: High school diploma or GED, with 2–3 years of relevant experience in workforce development, human services, employment services, or a related field. Experience may substitute for some of the education requirements.

Work Experiance:

Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in workforce development, human services, employment services, job development, recruiting, or a related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; familiarity with departmental databases and websites; intermediate experience with Microsoft Word; and general computer and internet literacy. Experience with similar software is also acceptable.
