Job summary

Description

Community Support Assistant – part‑time position (15 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 5:30 PM–8:30 PM in Fort Washington, MD) paying $18.50 per hour. Melwood’s mission is to create jobs and opportunities for people with disabilities so they can have a good quality of life.

Responsibilities
  • Provide and/or assist with personal care and emotional support, helping individuals reach maximum independence based on their individual plan.
  • Support persons served in meal preparation, daily living activities, and maintain a clean and healthful environment.
  • Assist with medical appointments as needed.
  • Monitor and report changes in an individual’s condition or living situation to the Program Director and/or Case Manager promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality of each person served’s information.
  • Communicate with the Case Manager, Program Director, and persons served regarding schedule implementation and other needs.
  • Engage persons served in meaningful community/recreational activities.
  • Attend and actively participate in required trainings, mandatory monthly staff meetings, and supervision meetings.
  • Complete and submit time sheets, log notes, and mileage reports to the Program Director and/or Case Manager by established deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Qualifications

The incumbent must be able to stand or walk 50 % of the work time; sit and/or drive the other 50 %. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds and lean, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach. Vision is required for driving; hearing is not required.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Two years of driving experience.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a community‑based setting strongly desired.

Personal vehicle may be required for transporting persons served. All Melwood transportation policies must be followed and liability insurance on the personal vehicle must be in full force and effect while transporting for or on the behalf of Melwood. Melwood will reimburse for mileage pursuant to the Travel policy.

Supervision

Reports to the Program Director, Community Support Services. The person receiving services is also considered a supervisor in the workplace.
