Job summary

Howard Hughes Communities is seeking a Job Cost Accountant to support the Teravalis master-planned community in Buckeye, AZ. You will handle AP & MPC accounting, administer contracts, prepare ad hoc reports, and assist in budgets and cash flow projections.

Based in Scottsdale with a Monday-Thursday onsite schedule and remote Fridays, you will work closely with the Division Controller, Corporate Accounting, and external auditors, ensuring accurate monthly activity and timely communications.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of accounting or payment application experience.
• Project cost accounting experience.
• JD Edwards and/or Coupa experience preferred.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and related products.
• Strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Team player who can multi-task and is self-directed.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Deadline-focused and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Process job cost invoices and contractor pay applications in Coupa, coding monthly activity to job commitments.
• Obtain documentation from contractors for progress and final payments, including lien waivers.
• Log invoices and pay applications with details (invoice number, amount, service period, status).
• Maintain internal invoice trackers and publish reports to stakeholders on schedule.
• Log 20-day lien notices and respond appropriately.
• Investigate discrepancies between pay apps and commitments, communicating fixes.
• Administer JD Edwards job cost applications and release retention payments.
• Handle special projects and other duties as assigned.

About The Role

The Job Cost Accountant reports directly to the Manager, MPC Accounting. This position is responsible for the basic job cost accounting and reporting functions for the Teravalis master-planned community located in Buckeye, AZ. The office location is Scottsdale, AZ. This includes but is not limited to: AP & MPC Accounting, administering construction contracts and consulting agreements, preparing ad hoc reporting, and assisting in budget and cash flow projections. The position is responsible for administration and maintenance of JD Edwards job cost applications and working in Coupa, Hubble, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word. Additionally, the applicant must have proven ability to effectively communicate directly with Division Controller, Corporate Accounting, external auditors, Senior Management, etc.

This position is onsite Monday-Thursday with the ability to work remotely on Fridays.

What You Will Do

• Process job cost invoices and contractor pay applications within the Coupa payment system, ensuring accurate coding of monthly activity in accordance with the established job commitment.
• Ensure proper documentation is obtained from contractors for progress and final payments, including unconditional and conditional lien waivers.
• Log invoices and contract pay applications as they are received within internal tracking tools, including pertinent details such as invoice number, amount, service period, processing status and payment status
• Maintain internal invoice trackers month over month, ensuring new commitments are added to the report, and the finalized report is published to stakeholders on schedule.
• Log 20-day preliminary lien notices received, ensuring proper responses and subsequent action are taken.
• Investigate discrepancies identified between contractor pay applications and internal commitments, ensuring that any corrective action is clearly identified and communicated to the appropriate parties.
• Administration and maintenance of JD Edwards job cost applications, including releasing retention payments.
• Special projects and other duties as assigned.

About You

• Minimum of 3 years of accounting or payment application experience required.
• Project cost accounting experience required.
• JD Edwards accounting system and/or Coupa spend management platform experience preferred.
• Sufficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and related products.
• Proven ability to effectively communicate directly with internal and external stakeholders.
• A team player who can multi-task and is self-directed.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Must be deadline focused, organized and exhibit problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including strong technical writing skills.
• Handle a dynamic work environment with competing priorities.
