Job Title: Job Captain Job Description
The Job Captain prepares accurate and detailed architectural plans and drawings, coordinates design and documentation tasks, and supports project teams in delivering high-quality construction documents that meet firm standards and client expectations. This role contributes directly to project success while offering clear growth paths toward Project Manager, Project Architect, and future ownership opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and draft a variety of structures in compliance with firm standards and project requirements.
• Develop and maintain strong proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD for design and documentation work.
• Prepare complete and accurate project documents, ensuring consistency, clarity, and adherence to standards.
• Create preliminary drawing sets (“cartoon sets”) to organize and communicate project scope and design intent.
• Research, select, and apply standard details appropriate to each project type and condition.
• Produce aesthetically pleasing, well-coordinated drawings that require minimal corrections.
• Complete drawing tasks within allotted timeframes and proactively communicate any delays to the Project Manager or Project Architect.
• Demonstrate a solid understanding of basic construction principles, seek clarification when needed, and retain knowledge for future projects.
• Review drawings for quality, accuracy, and compliance prior to internal QA/QC reviews and external submittals.
• Conduct zoning and building code reviews under supervision and integrate findings into project documents.
• Coordinate with consultants to align drawings and minimize rework across disciplines.
• Occasionally participate in client design meetings and prepare and distribute meeting minutes under the direction of the Project Manager or Project Architect.
• Manage contract administration tasks such as RFIs, shop drawings, and project documentation under supervision.
• Manage small projects under close supervision, taking responsibility for day-to-day coordination and documentation.
• Supervise the work of Architectural Designers, providing clear direction, redlines, and feedback to support their development and maintain document quality.
• Maintain strong working relationships with clients and consultants to support ongoing and future project opportunities.
• Occasionally assist with administrative tasks such as printing, scanning, and office errands as needed.
• Perform and assist with miscellaneous project and administrative duties as assigned by project leadership.
• Participate in professional development activities, including lunch-and-learns, webinars, and independent research to stay current with industry standards and tools.

• Interest in professional growth, including progression from Job Captain to Project Manager or Project Architect.

Work Environment

This role typically follows a four-day workweek schedule, Monday through Thursday, with four 10-hour days, and is not strictly required to be in the office at all times. The work involves extended periods of sitting while performing design and documentation tasks, with occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to 25 pounds. The office environment has a moderate noise level and may include occasional exposure to outdoor conditions during site or field-related activities. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
