Job summary

JAX Jackson General Hospital in the United States seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our clinical team. The role entails preparing patients for physicians, administering injections, immunizations, and treatments, plus coordinating with pharmacies for prescriptions.

Responsibilities include maintaining clean exam rooms, recording test results, screening calls, and supporting physicians and nurse practitioners in patient care.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Current unencumbered LPN licensure with WV Board or appropriate state board.
• Current CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Check examining rooms daily, clean and stock as required.
• Prepare patients for the physician such as weighing, measuring, and performing tests.
• Clean examining room after patient leaves.
• Carry out physician orders: injections, appointments, wound care, treatments.
• Assist physician/Nurse Practitioner with treatments.
• Screen incoming calls to determine if physician or NP needs to see or call the patient.
• Explain to parents how to care for illnesses.
• Maintain orderly work areas and waiting rooms.
• Record lab/radiology results and contact patients as needed.
• Collect Urine Drug Screen specimens and complete paperwork.
• Perform Breath Alcohol Tests.
• Conduct Well Child exams and immunizations.
• Coordinate with pharmacies to authorize prescribed medications.
• Prepare charts for following day and update records.
• Thoroughly clean and stock examination rooms weekly.
• Make patient appointments.
• Handle filing, phones, and other duties as assigned.

1. Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Practical Nursing, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a practical nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
2. Current CPR required.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Check examining rooms daily - clean and stock as required.
2. Prepare patients for the physician. For example: weigh patients, measure patients, perform tests as necessary.
3. Clean examining room after patient leaves.
4. Carry out physician orders, ie. give injections, make appointments, clean and bandage wounds, do assigned treatments.
5. Assist physician and/or Nurse Practitioner with treatments.
6. Screen incoming calls - decide if the physician and/or Nurse Practitioner needs to see or call patient.
7. Inform parents how to care for and what to expect from their illness.
8. Periodically check entire work area including waiting rooms and tidy up as necessary
9. Record test (lab, radiology, etc.) results in patient charts and contact patients as necessary regarding tests
10. Collect Urine Drug Screen Specimens and do proper paperwork.
11. Perform Breath Alcohol Tests
12. Perform Well Child exam and administer immunizations.
13. Contact pharmacies to authorize prescribed medication for patients.
14. Pull and process patient charts for next day. This includes such items as stamping, adding sheets, updating immunizations
15. Thoroughly clean and stock each examination room weekly
16. Make patient appointments
17. Perform filing, answer phone, and other duties as assigned by the physician
