Job summary

JAX Jackson General Hospital is recruiting an Advanced Practice Nurse practitioner to provide direct medical management for assigned shifts and patient populations. You will work with a collaborating physician to assess, diagnose, and treat within your scope, including prescribing medications and interpreting tests.

The role requires a WV APRN license, a Master’s in Nursing with Emergency or Family Practice specialization, and current ACLS/PALS/BLS; ATLS if working in the ED.

Qualifications

• Active WV RN and APRN licenses required.
• Master’s degree in Emergency or Family Practice nursing.
• Current ACLS, PALS, BLS; ATLS if ED assignment.
• Experience as an advanced practice nurse preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct medical management for assigned shifts and patient populations.
• Assess, diagnose, and treat within scope of practice with physician supervision.
• Prescribe medications and interpret lab/pathology results.
• Obtain histories, perform exams, and develop treatment plans.
• Counsel patients and coordinate referrals as needed.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and complete required education.

Job description

This position will have clinical responsibilities for assigned shifts and assigned patient populations based on credentialing. Provide direct medical management for patients within their scope of practice with the collaborating physician or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Registered Nurse licensed in the State of WV and licensed as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the State of WV
• Master’s Degree in Nursing specializing in Emergency or Family Practice
• Current ACLS, PALS, BLS, and ATLS certification required
• ATLS required only if working in Emergency Department

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Renders health care services to patients consistent with education, training, and experience as an advanced practice nurse
• Receives patients, obtains health histories, performs physical examinations, develops diagnoses, and treatment plans, prescribes medications, order and interprets laboratory, pathology, x-ray tests and other clinical data
• Obtains and prepares specimens for laboratory testing
• Performs or assists in laboratory testing procedures consistent with education, skills, and training
• Gives injections and immunizations
• Sutures and performs biopsies and electrocautery consistent with education, skills, and training
• Provides patient counseling
• Discusses other health care resources with patients and their families and refer patients, where appropriate
• Makes arrangements or assists with arrangement, for patients in need of more sophisticated diagnostic or treatment modalities than those offered
• Provides emergency care services within the range of education, skills, and experience
• Distributes medical supplies and dispense and prescribe medications, including prescriptive medication within the range of education, skills, and experience
• Supplies general health care information
• Maintain confidentiality of patient records
• Complete Annual Employee Education

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Heavy/Hard Work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning of patients, standing, walking, and carrying of patients, materials and equipment weighting 40+ pounds.
