Job summary

Choice Hotels International, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer 2 to join the Guest & Loyalty Domain in Scottsdale.

You will contribute to the loyalty and guest engagement platform, developing secure Java code using Spring, with cloud deployments on AWS and participation in full development lifecycle. You’ll work in a hybrid, mostly onsite team with 4 days in the Scottsdale office, collaborating across product, QA and architecture while embracing new technologies and AI-assisted development for

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2–4 years of Java (v1.8+) development experience with Spring (REST, MVC, Security).
• Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud environments.
• Experience with Jira and Confluence.
• Familiarity with REST API design and consumption patterns.
• Source control proficiency – Bitbucket / Git workflows, branching strategies, and merge conflict resolution.
• Proficiency with IDEs like IntelliJ IDEA or VS Code, and build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
• Understanding of secure coding practices and application security fundamentals.
• Strong debugging habits and experience with logs and monitoring tools.
• SQL/relational database fundamentals.
• Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
• interpersonal skills and a growth mindset; curious about AI tools like Copilot or Claude.

Responsibilities

• Analyze user stories and develop secure, maintainable Java code with Spring frameworks.
• Use AI tools to improve productivity and code quality.
• Contribute to design discussions, code reviews, and integration testing.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including standups and sprints.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based deployments (AWS).
• Monitor and debug production systems with Prometheus and OpenSearch.
• Collaborate with QA for validation and test planning.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for production support.
• Stay current with new technologies and best practices.
