Job summary

Choice Hotels International is seeking a Software Engineer 2 to join the Guest and Loyalty Domain in Scottsdale. The role focuses on building scalable Java applications, leveraging Spring, REST APIs, and cloud services to power loyalty and guest engagement systems.

You will collaborate in an Agile team, use AI tools to boost productivity, and participate in design reviews, testing, and on-call rotation. Hybrid work with four days onsite at our Scottsdale office is expected.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of Java development experience (Java 8) with Spring (REST, MVC, Security).
• Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud environments.
• Familiarity with REST API design and consumption patterns.
• Source control proficiency – Bitbucket / Git workflows, branching strategies, and merge conflict resolution.
• Comfort using modern Java IDEs (IntelliJ IDEA or VS Code) and build tools (Maven or Gradle).
• Understanding of secure coding practices and fundamentals of application security.

Responsibilities

• Analyze user stories and develop secure, maintainable Java code with Spring frameworks.
• Use AI tools to improve productivity and code quality.
• Participate in design discussions, peer code reviews, and integration testing.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies like standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based deployments (AWS).
• Assist with monitoring and debugging production systems using tools like Prometheus and OpenSearch.
• Partner with QA for validation and test planning.
• Participate in rotating on-call schedule to support production systems.
• Stay current on new technologies and best practices.
