The role requires 8–10 years in financial services, deep Java (11/17+), Spring Boot, REST, microservices, Angular, SQL data modeling, and Kafka/MQ. Hybrid work with on-site presence in NYC and W2 compensation.

Qualifications

Our client is seeking a Java Technical Lead to join their team in New York. As a Java Technical Lead, you will serve as a hands-on Senior Technology SME supporting strategic initiatives across Advisory, Sales & Distribution (ASD) and Global Capital Markets (GCM). What's the Job?

• Provide technology leadership and advisory support across multiple strategic programs supporting investment banking, capital markets, sales, trading, and client distribution functions.
• Act as a technical consultant for architecture reviews, modernization initiatives, and platform transformation efforts, identifying opportunities to simplify architecture, improve scalability, and reduce technical debt.
• Drive engineering excellence across application architecture, API design, microservices, event-driven systems, and cloud-native development.
• Support delivery teams by performing deep technical reviews, resolving complex technical challenges, and addressing production issues.
• Enable capital markets domain workflows and translate complex business requirements into scalable technology solutions, while exploring AI/GenAI adoption opportunities.

What's Needed?

• 8 to 10 years of software engineering experience within banking, capital markets, or financial services.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Java (Java 11/17+), Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices architecture, and Angular.
• Strong working knowledge of SQL/data modeling and messaging technologies such as Kafka and/or MQ.
• Experience with SDLC, DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and production support.
• Ability to present technical solutions to senior business and technology stakeholders and collaborate cross-functionally across distributed teams.
