Job summary

Ascendion is seeking a highly skilled Java Developer to join our banking-focused backend team in New York. You will design, build, and maintain scalable microservices with Java, Spring Boot, and AWS cloud technologies.

You will work on relational databases (Aurora PostgreSQL), containerized deployments using ECS, and infrastructure with Terraform, collaborating across teams to deliver robust enterprise solutions for Fortune 500 clients. Onsite in Manhattan or Jersey City.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices.
Experience with relational databases, preferably Aurora PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of AWS cloud services.
Hands-on experience with ECS and Terraform.
Experience building distributed applications in production environments.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture.
Develop and optimize applications leveraging Aurora PostgreSQL and relational database design principles.
Deploy, manage, and support cloud-native applications on AWS.

Job Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Java Developer with strong backend expertise in Java. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience building scalable microservices, developing cloud‑native applications on AWS, and working with relational databases in enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture.
Develop and optimize applications leveraging Aurora PostgreSQL and relational database design principles.
Deploy, manage, and support cloud‑native applications on AWS.
Utilize ECS and Terraform for container orchestration and infrastructure automation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
Participate in code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization initiatives.
Contribute to system design discussions and architectural decisions.

Required Qualifications:

7+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong hands‑on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices.
Experience working with relational databases, preferably Aurora PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of AWS cloud services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Kafka or other messaging/event-streaming platforms.
Exposure to Spring AI and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.

Salary and Other Compensation: The annual salary for this position is between$110,000-$140,000annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
