Qualifications

• 7+ years in automotive service, with 2+ years leading technicians.
• Certified vehicle inspector (自動車検査員).
• Working knowledge of Japanese vehicle safety regulations (保安基準).
• Ownership of a service or workshop operation.
• Strong organization and communication, able to prioritize across multiple engineering teams.
• Native-level Japanese and business-level English.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and grow a team of engineering technicians.
• Own fleet readiness: plan buildouts, maintenance, and repairs to minimize downtime.
• Run the workshop as a safe, organized, efficient operation with proper tooling and safety procedures.
• Ensure vehicle modifications and inspections comply with Japanese safety regulations and 車検; coordinate with authorities.
• Partner with autonomy engineering, hardware, and vehicle operations teams in Japan and the US; support OEM customer engagements.
