Job summary

Archdiocese of San Antonio is seeking a part-time Janitorial Worker to maintain cleanliness across parish facilities, including the church and related halls. Hours are Sundays 2:00 PM–7:00 PM and Monday–Thursday 7:00 AM–12:00 PM, with duties to keep restrooms, floors, windows, and common areas tidy.

This role requires reliability, attention to detail, and adherence to safety policies. The position reports to the Pastor and supports parish operations, including managing supplies and reporting

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Prior janitorial or custodial experience preferred.
• Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain safety.

Responsibilities

• Clean and care for assigned areas including dusting and polishing.
• Sanitize pews, chairs, kneelers, and restrooms.
• Clean floors (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming) and maintain fixtures.
• Stock custodial supplies and report repair needs to supervisor.
• Adhere to safety policies and church environment guidelines.

Position Summary

The Janitorial Worker is responsible for the general care, cleanliness and basic upkeep of the parish facilities, including the church, Divine Mercy Chapel, Parish Office, St. Ann Hall, Goertz Hall, Catechetical Center, and Parish Rectory. This role requires familiarity with cleaning equipment and supplies, attention to detail, and strong sense of responsibility, always in support of the parish's mission.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Clean and care for assigned areas including dusting, and polishing of furniture, equipment and other fixtures
• Sanitize pews, chairs, and kneelers
• Clean all building floors (sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming)
• Polish, seal, and strip floors as needed
• Clean all windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
• Clean and resupply restrooms
• Gather and empty trash bins
• Check grounds for litter/garbage and unsafe conditions
• Stock and maintain all custodial supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner including, paper, toiletries, lighting cleaning chemicals and other supplies
• Identify and report building and ground issues in need of repair or attention to Parish administrator or designated supervisor.
• Observe and adhere to all safe work and health policies and regulations

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent is required
• Prior custodian / janitorial experience preferred
• Knowledge and/ or experience working with cleaning equipment and chemicals
• Experience with operating various cleaning equipment
• Ability to perform with minimal daily supervision
• Must be proactive in support of the Parish purpose, goals, policies and programs
• Must possess good interpersonal communication skills
• Must complete and pass VIRTUS training and criminal background check

Physical Demands/ Work Environment

• Regular exposure to cleaning supplies and maintenance-related tasks
• Work takes place in a church environment that includes sacred spaces and active parish programming
• Spend majority of work time standing/ squatting/ lifting/ kneeling doing a wide variety of moderate physical activity both indoors and outdoors
• The position requires the lifting of tools, and equipment or material weighing up to 30 lbs. as necessary.
• Use of ladders and climbing to maintain facilities when necessary
• Maintains a neat clean appearance
