Job summary

Sunny Isle Housing in St. Croix, VI is seeking a diligent Janitor to maintain cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the community and its common areas. The role requires attention to detail and the ability to work independently while supporting a service-focused environment.

Key responsibilities include daily cleaning, waste management, restroom maintenance, floor care, window cleaning, minor maintenance, safety adherence, and inventory tracking. Flexible schedule; full-time, non-exempt.

Qualifications

  • Previous janitorial or custodial experience is preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment, and techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize offices, hallways, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.
  • Empty trash, recycling, and restock supplies.
  • Maintain flooring and windows; assist with minor maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct routine nighttime rounds and report hazards.
  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; order as needed.
  • Assist with event setup and breakdown as required.

Sunny Isle Housing, an older adult residential community with 55units located in St. Croix, VIis seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Janitor to join our team. In this important role, you will help maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the community and its common areas. Your work will ensure that the property remains welcoming, sanitary, and comfortable for residents, employees, and visitors. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting a respectful and service-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning & Sanitizing: Perform daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting all areas of the facility such as offices, hallways, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.
  • Waste Management: Empty trash cans, recycling bins, and disposal of waste properly in designated areas. Replace liners and ensure waste areas are kept clean and orderly.
  • Restroom Maintenance: Clean and sanitize restrooms thoroughly, including sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, and floors. Restock supplies such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels as needed.
  • Floor Care: Maintain the cleanliness of various flooring surfaces, including tile, carpet, and wood. This may include vacuuming, spot-cleaning, waxing, buffing, and stripping floors as necessary.
  • Window & Glass Cleaning: Clean interior windows, glass doors, and other glass surfaces to ensure they are free of smudges and streaks.
  • Minor Maintenance: Perform minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, tightening screws, and reporting larger maintenance needs to the Building Maintenance team.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely. Ensure that cleaning supplies are stored properly, and that all safety data sheets (SDS) are accessible.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and report the inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment. Request restocking of supplies as needed to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Event Support: Assist with the set-up and breakdown of furniture and equipment for events, meetings, and other activities as required.
  • Special Projects: Undertake special cleaning projects, such as deep cleaning, seasonal tasks, or post-construction clean-up, as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with supervisors and other staff members, reporting any issues, hazards, or areas needing attention.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine nighttime rounds throughout the property, including common areas, entrances, hallways, grounds, and parking areas.
  • Observe and report safety hazards, property damage, unusual activity, or other concerns to management.
  • Document significant incidents or concerns observed during rounds.
  • Contact management or emergency services when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous janitorial or custodial experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • Skills: Basic knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment, and techniques. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift to 25 lbs., and stand or walk for extended periods. Must be able to bend, kneel, and reach as needed to perform cleaning tasks.
  • Work Ethic: Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Communication: Basic verbal communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Availability: Flexible schedule, including availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays as required.
Compensation

Actual base salary considers several factors including but not limited to geography, job-related knowledge, experience, and budget. The start of the salary range is typically associated with the minimum experience required.

The role is considered full-time non-exempt and will be eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state law. The anticipated base pay range for the position is
$15.67 - $16.00 per hour.
