Job summary

RHF is seeking a Janitor for Mayflower Gardens, a 502-unit senior living community in Lancaster, CA. You will maintain cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the facility, including common areas, hallways, restrooms, and offices, while following safety standards and policies.

The role is part-time (30+ hours, non-exempt) with an anticipated hourly rate of $18.00-$20.00. This position supports daily operations and resident comfort, requiring reliability, organization, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize all areas including offices, hallways, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.
  • Empty trash, replace liners, and maintain waste areas.
  • Restroom cleaning and restocking supplies.
  • Maintain floors, windows, and perform minor maintenance tasks.
  • Follow safety regulations and SDS guidelines.
  • Assist with setup for events and special cleaning projects.

Job Summary

The Janitor at Mayflower Gardens, a 502-unit senior residential community in Lancaster, CA, is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the property, including common areas, hallways, restrooms, offices, and other designated areas. This position supports daily community operations by performing routine cleaning and sanitation duties, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and promptly addressing cleaning needs throughout the property. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, and detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently while following established cleaning and safety standards. This role plays an important part in ensuring the community remains clean, safe, accessible, comfortable, and welcoming for residents, visitors, and team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning & Sanitizing: Perform daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting all areas of the facility such as offices, hallways, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.
  • Waste Management: Empty trash cans, recycling bins, and disposal of waste properly in designated areas. Replace liners and ensure waste areas are kept clean and orderly.
  • Restroom Maintenance: Clean and sanitize restrooms thoroughly, including sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, and floors. Restock supplies such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels as needed.
  • Floor Care: Maintain the cleanliness of various flooring surfaces, including tile, carpet, and wood. This may include vacuuming, spot-cleaning, waxing, buffing, and stripping floors as necessary.
  • Window & Glass Cleaning: Clean interior windows, glass doors, and other glass surfaces to ensure they are free of smudges and streaks.
  • Minor Maintenance: Perform minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, tightening screws, and reporting larger maintenance needs to the Building Maintenance team.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely. Ensure that cleaning supplies are stored properly, and that all safety data sheets (SDS) are accessible.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and report the inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment. Request restocking of supplies as needed to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Event Support: Assist with the set-up and breakdown of furniture and equipment for events, meetings, and other activities as required.
  • Special Projects: Undertake special cleaning projects, such as deep cleaning, seasonal tasks, or post-construction clean-up, as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with supervisors and other staff members, reporting any issues, hazards, or areas needing attention.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine nighttime rounds throughout the property, including common areas, entrances, hallways, grounds, and parking areas.
  • Observe and report safety hazards, property damage, unusual activity, or other concerns to management.
  • Document significant incidents or concerns observed during rounds.
  • Contact management or emergency services when necessary.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Previous janitorial or custodial experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • Skills: Basic knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment, and techniques. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift to 25 lbs., and stand or walk for extended periods. Must be able to bend, kneel, and reach as needed to perform cleaning tasks.
  • Work Ethic: Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Communication: Basic verbal communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Availability: Flexible schedule, including availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays as required.
Compensation

Actual base salary considers several factors including but not limited to geography, job-related knowledge, experience, and budget. The start of the salary range is typically associated with the minimum experience required. This is a part-time 30+ hours non-exempt position. The anticipated hourly rate is $18.00-$20.00 per hour.
