Job summary

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) seeks a Therapist – MAT to support individuals in the Hampton City Jail. You will conduct behavioral health assessments, develop treatment plans, provide individual and group counseling, and coordinate care with jail staff, medical providers, and community partners to sustain MAT/MOUD services.

This full-time role offers a Monday–Friday schedule, a $3,000 sign-on bonus, and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling required.
• One year of clinical experience in a substance use disorder and/or correctional setting.
• Must be eligible for CSAC supervision approval in Virginia within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Complete behavioral health and substance use assessments.
• Develop individualized treatment plans.
• Provide individual and group counseling.
• Respond to behavioral health and substance use crises.
• Coordinate discharge planning and community referrals.
• Maintain accurate electronic health records.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Collaborate with Re-entry Coordinator, correctional staff, medical providers, and community partners to support MAT/MOUD services.

Therapist – Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Annual Salary: $55,459
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sign-on Bonus: $3,000

Behavioral health and substance use treatment are an important part of supporting individuals receiving Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) while incarcerated and preparing for successful reentry into the community. The Therapist – Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) provides behavioral health and substance use services to individuals in the Hampton City Jail. This role provides assessment, counseling, treatment planning, and care coordination while working with jail staff, medical providers, and community partners to support recovery and continuity of care.

Key responsibilities include completing behavioral health and substance use assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, providing individual and group counseling, responding to behavioral health and substance use crises, and providing recovery-focused education. The role also includes coordinating discharge planning and community referrals, maintaining accurate electronic health records, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, and collaborating with the H-NNCSB Re-entry Coordinator, correctional staff, medical providers, and community partners to support MAT/MOUD services and continuity of care.

Required Qualifications

• Must be eligible for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) supervision approval in Virginia within 30 days of hire.
