AtkinsRéalis in Raleigh, NC is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern to design and develop plans for ITS/Traffic projects. You will assist with traffic signal design, fiber routing, signing, and safety studies, while learning through supervision and real-world applications.
Candidate should have completed 60 hours toward a civil engineering degree in an ABET-accredited program by Spring 2027; basic MS Office skills and familiarity with AutoCAD or MicroStation are preferred.
AtkinsRéalis is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern to join our Raleigh, NC office. Your Role Design and develop plans and drawings, which may include the development of preliminary layout and/or final drawings related to ITS and Traffic design. Specifically, our work includes traffic signal design, fiber optic communications cable routing and splicing, utility coordination, signing and striping, traffic safety studies, and more. Organize and conduct ITS and Traffic engineering investigations, planning, and analysis which have a well-defined scope. Outline and prepare relatively straightforward technical reports of sections of more complex reports, working under the periodic review of a more experienced professional. Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, regulatory agency specifications, industry best practices, state of the practices, and emerging technologies. Contributes to the development of specifications and permit applications and writes miscellaneous reports. Prepares preliminary man-hour, cost and material quantity estimates. Participates in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, checking computations, and/or reviewing reports, designs, and drawings developed by others. Coordinate with other disciplines as required. Perform field observations of construction where appropriate. Perform such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
EXPERIENCE: Must have completed 60 hours towards a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Spring 2027). EDUCATION: No experience is generally required if accepted into an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field. SPECIAL SKILLS: Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases Math skills to perform simple calculations; willingness to learn. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation (preferred).
