Job summary

AtkinsRéalis seeks an ITS Engineer in Tallahassee, FL to support planning, design, and maintenance of transportation communications and infrastructure. You will work with client staff, vendors, and multi-disciplinary teams to create practical, maintainable solutions for complex field environments.

The role requires ITS, traffic signals and transportation technology experience, plus the ability to design and implement networked ITS systems.

Qualifications

Experience with ITS, traffic signals, transportation technology, traffic operations, or roadway safety projects is required.
Experience with ITS communications and networking design is preferred, including fiber optic networks, Ethernet and IP networking, IP/MPLS transport, wireless systems, and field device connectivity.
Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
Engineer Intern (E.I.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is required; Professional Engineer licensure is preferred.
2 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience, depending on education level and project experience.
Strong technical writing, communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; CAD, MicroStation, Visio or similar tools preferred.

Responsibilities

Apply ITS engineering principles to planning, design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of ITS systems.
Develop infrastructure solutions for field device connectivity, network transport, system integration, remote sites, and centralized operations.
Design scopes of work, technical specifications, layouts, and drawings for ITS projects (fiber, microwave, IP networks, electrical, shelters, HVAC, power, UPS, access control, CCTV, and network management).
Conduct site reviews, field assessments, and technical evaluations to support deployments and lifecycle planning.
Evaluate design options against codes, client standards, and operational needs to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions.
Prepare studies, memoranda, system requirements, permits, cost estimates, and labor-hour estimates.
Support procurement, construction, and system integration through reviews, RFIs, field observations, testing, and issue resolution.
Perform inspections and condition assessments to document existing conditions and guide maintenance or replacement planning.
Collaborate with ITS operations, maintenance, engineering, and IT teams to ensure compatibility with needs and existing systems.
Participate in QA/QC activities, design reviews, and compliance verification; deliver technical presentations to stakeholders.
