The successful candidate will leverage their ITS engineering knowledge and experience to design, implement, operate, and maintain the statewide communications, networking, electrical, and supporting infrastructure systems that enable Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) deployments and operations.

The role requires close collaboration with client staff, operations and maintenance personnel, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop practical, dependable, maintainable, and constructible solutions for complex field environments.

Your role
  • Apply ITS engineering principles and transportation technology experience to the planning, design, implementation, operation, maintenance of communications, networking, electrical, and supporting infrastructure systems.
  • Apply working knowledge of ITS architecture, field technologies, communications systems, and operational environments to develop infrastructure solutions that support field device connectivity, network transport, system integration, remote sites, and centralized operations.

Assignments may include fiber optic systems, microwave communications networks, IP/MPLS networking, electrical power systems, equipment shelters, HVAC systems, lightning protection and grounding systems, emergency generators, DC power systems, uninterruptible power supplies, electronic access control systems, video surveillance systems, and network management systems.
  • Organize and conduct engineering investigations, site reviews, field assessments, planning activities, and technical evaluations to support system improvements, technology deployments, corrective actions, and lifecycle replacement programs.
  • Evaluate alternative design approaches, existing site conditions, operational requirements, applicable codes, regulatory criteria, and client standards to develop practical, cost-effective, maintainable, and constructible engineering solutions.
  • Prepare engineering studies, technical memoranda, reports, system requirements, specifications, permit applications, cost estimates, material quantity estimates, and labor-hour estimates.
  • Provide engineering support during procurement, implementation, construction, and system integration activities through plan reviews, shop drawing reviews, responses to requests for information, field observations, progress documentation, testing support, and technical issue resolution.
  • Perform field inspections and condition assessments of ITS communications, networking, electrical, and supporting infrastructure systems to identify deficiencies, document existing conditions, validate asset information, and support maintenance and replacement planning.
  • Collaborate with ITS operations, maintenance, engineering, and information technology personnel to ensure that proposed infrastructure solutions are compatible with operational needs and existing systems.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities, including design reviews, drawing reviews, computation checks, technical evaluations, and verification of compliance with established engineering standards and practices.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to client staff, management, project teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of client programs, project delivery, and engineering services.
About you

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • Engineer Intern (E.I.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is required. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience, depending on education level and project experience.
