Job summary

SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is seeking a Systems Administrator I to support all systems and infrastructure across on‑premises and cloud platforms in Southeast Alaska.

The role includes installing new infrastructure components, maintaining documentation, applying software/firmware updates, and providing Tier 3 support with a high degree of autonomy. Travel to SEARHC sites is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; BS in Information Systems or related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years’ experience managing Windows and Linux/Unix servers.
  • Knowledge of AD/LDAP, antivirus, backups, and monitoring systems.
  • Experience with databases (Oracle/MSSQL/MySQL) is a plus.
  • ITIL, HIPAA/HITECH familiarity preferred in healthcare IT.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains Windows Server environment including AD, GPO, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Provides Tier 3 support and incident resolution for infrastructure issues.
  • Develops documentation and procedures; participates in project work.
  • Travel to Southeast Alaska locations; occasional after-hours work.

Job description

Pay Range Pay Range:$36.46 - $51.29 The Systems Administrator I supports all Systems and Infrastructure for SEARHC, within both internal and cloud platforms. Performing maintenance tasks independently such as installing new infrastructure components, creating system documentation and procedures, installing software and firmware updates of Infrastructure components, while upholding the security configurations within these systems. The Systems Administrator I provides Tier 3 support to resolve issues that are assigned to the Systems Infrastructure team. Being able to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to new ideas and new methodologies is a must. This position is expected to participate in the critical system support structure with other IT departments. The Systems Administrator I is expected to function with a high degree of autonomy and self-direction once assigned work.

Key Essential Functions And Accountabilities Of The Job
  • Participates and engages and occasionally leads in team meetings, team building activities, and other
  • opportunities to strengthen the department.
  • Executes project-related tasks.
  • Actively maintains education and cross-training on various areas of expertise within IT Infrastructure.
  • Prepares, leads, and attends training when available and appropriate.
  • Participates in the evaluation and estimation of work requests and major projects.
  • Participates in the maintenance and upgrades of the Windows Server environment, to include Active Directory and Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Enterprise backup, and Enterprise monitoring.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a professional business manner and ability to interact with people of differing professional levels.
  • Assists management in identifying opportunities for process improvement within the department.
  • Occasional after hours work when needed, which can include weekends, holidays, or non-standard business hours.
  • Position requires frequent travel to locations in Southeast Alaska. Travel is by jet, small aircraft, and ferry.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required
  • High School Diploma and demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the key responsibilities of the position.
  • BS in Information Systems or related field preferred
  • Microsoft or Citrix certifications preferred.
Experience Required
  • 2-4 years’ work experience managing Windows and Linux/Unix based server systems.
  • A degree in a related field may be substituted for experience
  • Knowledge of several of the following: AD/LDAP, enterprise anti-virus, enterprise backup systems, enterprise monitoring/reporting systems. Knowledge of common databases, such as: Oracle/MSSQL/MySQL, etc.
  • Demonstrated work in hands on configuration, maintenance, and direct responsibility for enterprise IT systems, with preference for a Health Care environment.
  • Scripting/Programming experience and background preferred.
  • Preference for a modern scripting language, especially Perl, Python, PHP, Powershell, WSH, etc.
  • Familiarity with ITIL, HIPAA, HITECH, and other standards applicable to Health Care IT preferred.
Skills In
  • Highly proficient in/with Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Familiar with PowerShell.
  • Enterprise-grade system monitoring technologies.
Ability to
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records related Infrastructure Systems
  • Create, follow, and maintain documentation and checklists to ensure efficiency and consistency.
  • Travel as needed. Travel is by jet, small aircraft, and ferry.
