Job summary

Florida State University’s NHMFL Computer Support Group seeks an IT Support Specialist to provide specialized, scientific IT assistance to faculty and staff. You will install and maintain Windows and MacOS systems, manage imaging and endpoint configurations, and support Microsoft 365, Azure, and directory services.

Strong customer service and cybersecurity basics are essential. Responsibilities include after-hours on-site support and advising on hardware purchases while coordinating with NHMFL

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience.
  • Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.

  • Provide after-hours onsite support for mission-critical Microsoft Windows and Mac operations as needed.

Department

This position is within FSU’s Department of Information Technology Services (ITS)

Location

This position will be located at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL). The NHMFL is the largest and highest-powered magnet laboratory in the world and is the only facility of its kind in the United States. The Computer Support Group (CSG) supports all aspects of IT at the Lab.

Responsibilities
  • This position provides specialized, scientific IT support to faculty and staff of the NHMFL.
  • Set up and install various makes and models of networked servers, workstations, desktops, and laptop computers running different versions of Microsoft Windows and MacOS. Maintain Windows operating system imaging server for common desktop and laptop computers. Maintain SimpleMDM for Mac computers and tablets. Install and maintain networked printers, scanners and computer-connected scientific equipment.
  • Create and administer user accounts for Microsoft Windows Active Directory and 0365 email services. Provide end user instruction in the use of various computer, tablet and mobile device operating systems and software applications, audio-visual equipment, and video-conferencing systems. Assist staff with computer hardware and software purchasing decisions and provide quotes. Work with NHMFL Cybersecurity expert on developing processes & procedures for CSG and NHMFL staff.
  • Provide after-hours onsite support for mission-critical Microsoft Windows and Mac operations as needed.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience. (Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Microsoft Active Directory use is preferred. Microsoft Azure is a plus.

Helpful

A strong candidate would be someone with hands-on experience managing a Windows and macOS environment, Active Directory, and enterprise endpoint management. They should possess strong troubleshooting skills, a solid understanding of cybersecurity best practices, and experience supporting an IT infrastructure in a professional environment. The ideal candidate is customer-service oriented, communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical users, and can work independently while managing multiple priorities.
