This position is within FSU’s Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) and National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL)
This position will be located at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL). The NHMFL is the largest and highest-powered magnet laboratory in the world and is the only facility of its kind in the United States. The Computer Support Group (CSG) supports all aspects of IT at the Lab.
This position specializes in the management, security, and optimization of enterprise Windows and Macintosh environments. Committed to high availability, compliance, and continuous improvement through automation and best practices.
Administer servers running Microsoft Server operating systems providing Active Directory, dynamic network addressing, file storage, network printing, web services and Cloud services. Includes evaluation, purchase, installation and configuration of all necessary hardware, software and consumables. Purchase recommendations include a wide variety of equipment and software, including desktop and laptop computers and mission critical servers.
Provide technical support for desktop and laptop computers. Includes troubleshooting and correcting computer hardware and software problems.
Perform regular data backups of critical servers running Microsoft Server and Linux operating systems. Provide enhancements to systems to include evaluation and deployment of additional or upgraded computer hardware, and the evaluation and deployment of software products to meet the requirements of those systems. This includes replacing outdated hardware, upgrading server operating systems and software. Research and implement solutions for ease of desktop support for the end user and support staff like Remote Assistance software or Imaging software for new and refurbished systems.
Provide consultation and assistance with purchases related to information technology. Approves information technology purchases before they are made to ensure compliance with departmental standards. Examples would be desktop systems, specialized computer systems for scientific research, laptops, server hardware, RAID arrays, and fiber channel equipment. Serves as subject matter expert on these systems.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years' experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience. (Note: or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
Experience in Microsoft Active Directory administration is preferred. Microsoft Azure is a plus.
