Job summary

Air Force Services Agency seeks an experienced network and systems administrator to support 10 AFRC locations. You will enforce information security policies, configure firewalls, servers, switches, and routers, and develop robust WAN/LAN configurations.

The role includes monitoring performance, troubleshooting hardware and software, and guiding field technicians. You will also implement acquisition-friendly modernization, coordinate updates, and maintain comprehensive documentation and recovery

Qualifications

Duties

Performs duties as a network and system administrator for the 10 AFRC locations. Assures application of information security/information assurance policies, principles and practices in the delivery of network services. Implements program security measures and tools for optimal user/activity experience. Configures enclave perimeter firewalls, servers, switches and routers. Ensures proper system configuration for optimal availability and functionality. Develops and maintains configuration management plans for complex, multi-site, wide-area and local networks (WAN/LAN). Develops network maps, back-up, and recovery procedures. Implements network modifications and enhancements. Observes network traffic patterns and identifies performance metrics. Monitors network and relevant system performance. Troubleshoots network, AFSVC hosted system, and system hardware problems. Documents anomalies and system failures for future use. Tests and installs network, servers, workstations, Cat5/Cat6 cabling, and AFSVC hosted systems. Coordinates system fixes and network updates. Addresses opportunities and challenges of implementing transformational technology (virtualization, cloud computing) into the Federal environment. Manages accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment. Supports end-user requirements and requests. Integrates hardware and software components within the systems environment. Evaluates, recommends, and installs compilers, assemblers and utilities. Manages hardware and software obsolescence, and life-cycle requirements. Evaluates new systems engineering technologies and their effect on the operating environment. Organizes the installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of hardware and software systems. Recommends hardware upgrades based on emerging software requirements. Works with system manufacturers to rectify system anomalies. Provides technical and system assistance to installations, activities, and local installation technicians. Trains base-level technicians on system troubleshooting techniques, minor system adjustments, and equipment maintenance. Performs other related duties as assigned.

• This position requires the incumbent to conduct official travel within the Continental United States (CONUS).

Qualifying Experience

Must have experience with installing and configuring firewalls (i.e., Cisco, Juniper, McAfee, or equivalent) and network operating systems (i.e., Windows Server, virtualization software (e.g., VMware), Unix, z/OS, or equivalent). Must have experience working with Storage Area, Local Area, and Wide Area networks (i.e., setting up, providing technical support, and/or maintaining networks). Must have experience using database query languages (i.e., Structured Query Language-SQL, Data Manipulation Language-DML, or equivalent) to communicate with database management systems. Must have experience applying attention to detail, such as testing networks and relevant systems by applying multiple test scenarios and documenting results. Must have experience providing customer service, such as assisting both internal and external customers, assessing customers' needs, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction. Must have experience communicating complex network issues to customers or field technicians in remote locations; providing training to newer field technicians; and making recommendations on hardware upgrades. Must have experience solving problems by monitoring network traffic and patterns, documenting network latency problems, identifying the source of the problem, and developing feasible approaches to resolve the issue.
