Job summary

Chainguard in London seeks an IT Specialist to ensure smooth IT operations and support Chainguardians across time zones. You will manage and troubleshoot diverse IT systems, enforce security best practices, and collaborate with internal stakeholders.

The role requires strong communication, self-discipline, and hands-on experience with MacOS, Linux, and MDM. You will be part of a growing team and occasionally travel to support global hardware deployments.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline IT support for Chainguard employees across time zones.
• Maintain and troubleshoot office IT infrastructure, including network and A/V in London.
• Coordinate with vendors to order, ship, and manage hardware globally; act as local contact for London vendors.
• Handle employee lifecycle tasks such as onboarding with tools, systems, and hardware, in collaboration with HR/Recruiting.
• Triage IT requests via ticketing system, email, or Slack; determine severity and escalate when needed.
• Provide on-call IT support, including some holidays.

The role in a nutshell: As an IT Specialist your role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of the company's IT infrastructure and supporting all Chainguardians. You'll be responsible for managing and troubleshooting various IT systems, providing empathetic, detailed, and prompt technical support to employees, implementing/ensuring compliance with security, and collaborating with the entire company. This role requires strong communication skills, self-discipline, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across many different time zones.

What you’ll do

• Prioritize excellent customer service to employees; quick response and proper and accurate feedback on technical problems
• Be our on-site support for our London office by maintaining our network, A/V, and supporting/troubleshooting our IT assets
• Work with vendors to order, manage, and ship hardware worldwide, and serve as the local point of contact for London-based vendors
• Manage employee lifecycle through onboarding new Chainguardians with tools, systems, and hardware, collaborating closely with Chainguard's HR/Recruiting team
• Receive requests through the IT ticketing system, via email, or Slack for assistance on computer related problems including hardware, software, peripheral, and related equipment; determine severity of problems; troubleshoot, resolve, or escale to appropriate technical staff as appropriate
• Provide on-call support (some holidays)

What we’re looking for

• Experience in IT Support, ideally at a remote or startup environment
• Experience with MacOS and Linux
• Experience with mobile device management (MDM)
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting with Neat Hardware
• A strong understanding of IT Security best practices and a desire to improve them
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
• Some travel required
• Ability to be in our London office 2 days a week (near Farringdon station), with availability to come in daily if ever needed
• Proactively self-motivated and self-starter — comfortable taking action independently with minimal oversight
• Strong ability to cycle between working independently and in a team environment
