Job summary

FAR.AI, a nonprofit AI safety research institute in the United States, seeks an IT & Security Manager to keep our operations reliable and secure as we scale. This hands-on role reports to the COO and owns accounts, devices, IAM, and the FAR.Labs network, with plans to hire an in-person IT Coordinator.

You will tackle real security challenges, improve posture, and collaborate across Research, Operations, Futures, and Communications to enable safe AI deployment.

Qualifications

• Experience owning IT and security in a 30–150 person org.
• Comfort with a terminal and some coding; prefer automation over manual work.
• Proven ability to redesign systems to reduce recurring requests.
• Hands-on security work driven by threat models.
• Experience implementing core identity and device infrastructure (MDM, SSO).
• Fast, service-oriented with strong reliability.
• Excellent communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Regular use of LLMs in work and understanding of where they help.

Responsibilities

• Own core internal systems end-to-end: accounts, devices, IAM, onboarding/offboarding.
• Address security gaps via risk-prioritized remediations.
• Build self-serve infra with other teams to reduce manual work.
• Collaborate with Research, Operations, Futures, and Communications to enable secure AI adoption.
• Hire and manage the in-person IT Coordinator and shape the team.
• Lead internal change management and clear communication.
