Job summary

FAR.AI in Berkeley is seeking an IT & Security Manager to run internal systems securely as we grow. You will own accounts, devices, identity, access, and the FAR.Labs office network, while shaping security practices and tooling for a growing research organization.

You will report to the COO and build a small in-person IT team, with a focus on automation, threat modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to enable research and events. This is a full-time, on-site role in the US.

Qualifications

• Experience owning IT and security for a 30–150 person organization, ideally as the first IT hire.
• Comfortable in a terminal and can code; not required to be an elite engineer.
• Able to redesign systems to reduce recurring requests; focus on root causes.
• Hands-on security work driven by threat models; defending against identifiable attackers.
• Implemented and owned core identity and device infrastructure, including MDM and SSO.
• Fast, service-oriented, and responsive to user needs.
• Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience using LLMs to support work and know where they help or not.

Responsibilities

• Own core IT operations: accounts, devices, identity and access, onboarding/offboarding, network, and end-user support.
• Lead security remediation across gaps, focusing on access controls, endpoint hardening, data governance and risk.
• Design self-serve infrastructure with cross-team collaboration to reduce manual work.
• Partner with Research, Operations, Events, and Communications to enable secure AI adoption.
• Build the IT team: hire and manage the in-person IT Coordinator; define the role path.
• Drive internal change management with clear communication and feedback loops post-deployment.
