IT Sales Engineer

Department: Business Development

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: USA - Remote

Reporting To: Drew Corbett

Description

At VC3, we don’t just solve IT problems — we own them. We serve hundreds of municipalities and organizations across the United States and Canada, bringing IT to the people who need it most. We believe in earning trust, having a growth mindset, and delivering excellence every single time.

We're a team of doers, builders, and tech whisperers who live by 4 core values: Go Beyond | Own It | Be Curious | Serve as One.

We pride ourselves on making IT personal, making IT easy, and getting IT right. And it all starts with our talented team that is committed to raising the bar.

The Impact you will have:

The Sales Engineer is responsible for providing pre-sales technical and functional expertise in support of the sales team for both prospective and existing clients. This role partners closely with Account Executives and Sales Leaders to qualify opportunities, shape solution strategy, and convert leads into successful engagements.

This role focuses on aligning client business objectives with scalable, secure, and supportable managed services offerings. The Sales Engineer translates complex technical environments into standardized, recurring solutions that drive long-term client value and predictable revenue growth.

Success in this role requires strong consultative skills, technical depth across infrastructure and security, and the ability to scope services accurately for successful delivery.

What you will be doing:
Pipeline & Opportunity Support
  • Partner with Account Executives to qualify managed services opportunities and validate technical fit.
  • Participate in discovery meetings to assess client infrastructure, business drivers, risk posture, and growth plans.
  • Identify gaps in security, compliance, lifecycle management, and operational maturity.
  • Provide technical strategy aligned to recurring services and long-term client engagement.
Assessment & Solution Design
  • Conduct technical assessments of client environments (network, infrastructure, cloud, security, backup, endpoint management).
  • Translate assessment findings into standardized managed services solutions.
  • Design scalable, supportable architectures aligned with company best practices and service catalog offerings.
  • Identify lifecycle risks and modernization opportunities that drive recurring revenue.
  • Ensure proposed solutions align with operational delivery capabilities.
Managed Services Scoping & Documentation
  • Develop Statements of Work (SOWs) and service scopes that clearly define:
  • Onboarding requirements
  • Ongoing managed services inclusions
  • Assumptions and exclusions
  • Technical standards
  • Collaborate with Service Delivery, Engineering, and Security teams to validate scope accuracy.
  • Ensure smooth transition from sales to onboarding and service teams.
Security & Compliance Focus
  • Evaluate client security posture and recommend improvements aligned to industry best practices.
  • Position security stack components (endpoint protection, email security, MFA, backup, monitoring, etc.).
  • Support compliance-driven clients (CJIS, regulatory, municipal, nonprofit, etc.) where applicable.
Vendor & Pricing Alignment
  • Leverage strategic vendor partnerships (Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, security vendors) to build competitive, standardized solutions.
  • Support accurate pricing aligned to managed services margins and packaging strategy.
  • Avoid over-customization that creates operational complexity.
Client-Facing Leadership
  • Present solutions in executive and technical discussions.
  • Translate technical recommendations into business outcomes (risk reduction, cost predictability, operational efficiency).
  • Address objections and position long-term value versus transactional sales
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Support development of standardized solution templates and service bundles.
  • Contribute to internal technical enablement for Sales.
  • Maintain accurate CRM documentation of technical findings and scope decisions.
  • Assist in strategic account planning for client expansion opportunities.
  • Additional duties as required
The tools you bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience (8+ years relevant experience).
  • Proven experience selling and designing Cisco and Microsoft solutions within enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience with enterprise networking, cloud solutions, virtualization, and infrastructure.
  • Experience with VoIP, VMware virtualization software, and server/storage platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, risk mitigation, and secure architecture design preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and sell end-to-end integrated solutions.
  • Experience gathering and analyzing client technical and business requirements.
  • Strong understanding of pricing models, vendor programs, and solution packaging.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to executive and technical audiences.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
    • Preferred Certifications:
  • Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) or equivalent Cisco certification.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or current Microsoft role-based certifications.
  • Additional certifications in security, cloud, or architecture are a plus.
  • Go Beyond – you take that extra step to create moments that are unexpected but appreciated.
  • Own It – You have the courage to do what's right, the resolve to take responsibility, and the grit to cross the finish line.
  • Be Curious – You challenge the status quo and aim for continuous improvement and constant learning.
  • Serve as One – You believe that together, we are greater than the sum of our individuals, and that teamwork is essential to success.
What's in it for you:
  • Flexibility – We’re remote-first, but not remote-only. Some roles include an onsite component, depending on team needs. We aim to give you the flexibility to do your best work, plus company-paid time off to help you thrive in work and in life.

We offer a range of benefits to support your overall well-being, from mental health and leave support through our Employee and Family Assistance Program, to financial wellness through company-matched 401(k)/RRSP plans. Whether it’s today’s needs or tomorrow’s goals, we’ve got you covered.
  • Grow with Us – Whether you’re just getting started or ready to take the next step, we are committed to investing in your growth. We offer structured development through our Leadership Academy, monthly learning sessions, mentorship programs, learning reimbursements, internal career fairs, job shadowing, and personalized career-pathing to support internal mobility.
  • People-First Culture – We live our values, support each other, and create a space where everyone belongs. We have a common goal of doing work that matters, with autonomy, recognition, and a mission to serve those who serve.
  • Transparent Leadership – From open communication to clear company goals, our leaders are involved, and our managers are here to support your growth every step of the way.

Applicant selected will be subject to a criminal and department of motor vehicles background checks and must meet Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) requirements post-employment.

Thank you for your interest in VC3. We appreciate all applications; however, only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
