Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking an IT Project Manager to drive technology initiatives across one of the nation’s largest community college systems. The role reports to the PMO Director and ensures projects are planned, funded, and delivered on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates end-to-end project lifecycle activities from initiation through closeout, with detailed plans, timelines, budgets and resource allocations.
  • Serves as primary contact for sponsors, business units and technical teams; facilitates meetings and communicates complex concepts clearly.
  • Leads project teams, ensures high-quality deliverables, resolves conflicts and removes roadblocks.
  • Manages vendor relationships, contracts and deliverables, ensuring compliance with standards and governance.
  • Tracks progress, prepares reports, and conducts post-implementation reviews to capture lessons learned.

Job Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the MCCCD is seeking a forward-thinking IT Project Manager to help drive meaningful technology initiatives that support students, faculty, and staff across one of the nation's largest community college systems.

Reporting to the Director of the Project Management Office (PMO), the IT Project Manager leads and coordinates cross-functional technology projects from concept through delivery. This role ensures projects are planned, executed, and monitored using modern project management practices, delivering solutions on time, within budget, and with measurable value to the institution. The IT PM partners closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to translate strategic goals into practical, impactful outcomes.

Essential Functions

Project Planning & Execution - 30%

  • Coordinates and facilitates end-to-end project lifecycle activities for small to medium size projects, including initiation, design, development, testing, deployment, and closeout; facilitates the development of detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations; maintains project documentation and ensures compliance with internal governance requirements; anticipates risks, implements mitigation strategies and manages project constraints and dependencies; escalates risks to leadership as appropriate.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication - 20%

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for project sponsors, business units, and technical teams; facilitates project meetings, status updates, and decision-making sessions; schedules project team meetings, circulates meeting agendas, documents and socializes meetings notes, follows-up on action items; translates moderately technical concepts into clear, business-friendly communication.

Team Leadership & Collaboration - 20%

  • Motivates project teams to ensure high-quality deliverables and accountability; coordinates with IT infrastructure, applications, security, and vendor partners to align project activities; resolves conflicts at the lowest level and enlists leadership as needed; removes project roadblocks; promotes a collaborative project environment; provides training, guidance, and/or orientation to junior team members.

Technology & Vendor Management - 15%

  • Collaborates and coordinates vendor relationships, contracts, and deliverables for assigned projects; researches applicable laws, policies, rules, and regulations; facilitates processes to ensure systems and solutions meet architecture, security, and compliance standards; supports testing, quality assurance, and change management processes to ensure smooth transitions to production.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting - 15%

  • Tracks project progress, milestones, and KPIs against objectives; prepares and presents reports to leadership and governance committees; conducts post-implementation reviews to capture lessons learned and improve future practices; creates and maintains project dashboards; performs related activities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in any field and two (2) years of IT Project Management experience in an area related to assignment.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree, education, certification and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Experience managing IT projects involving cloud solutions, infrastructure upgrades, system integrations, or enterprise applications.
  2. Experience incorporating change management activities as part of the project management approach and embedding continuous improvement/change into the culture.
  3. Experience facilitating defining problem statements to shape projects, identifying and refining project requirements with key stakeholders, and leading analysis of potential solutions.
  4. Experience solving moderately complex problems involving technology and human elements.
  5. Possession of relevant certifications (e.g. PMP, CAPM, PMI-ACP, ITIL, ScrumMaster (CSM) or equivalent).
  6. One (1) year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two (2) years.
Special Working Conditions

There is a mandatory minimum in-office expectation, currently two days onsite, in which the District reserves the right to update at any time.

The selected candidate will need to reside in the Phoenix area or relocate within six months of hire.

This role may involve after hours work and non-regular business hours.

May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor.

May be required to present in large meetings and sponsored events.

ITS does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas.
