Job summary

The State of Nebraska is seeking an IT professional in Lincoln, NE to support hardware, software, and system administration across the agency. Starting hourly pay rate is $30.986, with opportunities to lead IT initiatives and mentor staff.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Computer Science/IT, or equivalent experience.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve proposed hardware and software configurations.
  • Serve as vendor contact for PC hardware and software.
  • Recommend hardware and software replacement programs.
  • Research and define hardware requirements for computer operations.
  • Establish and enforce client security practices.
  • Monitor compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain and manage system inventory databases.
  • Investigate and prepare recommendations on emerging technologies.
  • Test new hardware and software and provide deployment recommendations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of IT trends and industry direction.
  • Maintain hardware and software inventory systems.
  • Recommend hardware and software standards for the organization.
  • Provide informal technical training for infrastructure personnel.
  • Offer consultation on general technical issues and solutions.
  • Provide direction and training to coworkers and agency staff.
  • Mentor and guide IT staff on assigned tasks.
  • Provide technical support on application development tools.
  • Assist in preparing the agency's IT plan and budget.
  • Prepare and deliver formal presentations.
  • Communicate IT issues and projects to agency leadership.
  • Ensure proper documentation is created and maintained.

Job Duties:
Hardware and Software Support:
  • Review and approve proposed hardware and software configurations
  • Serve as vendor contact for PC hardware and software
  • Recommend hardware and software replacement programs
  • Research and define hardware requirements for computer operations
System Administration:
  • Establish and enforce client security practices
  • Monitor work to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and statutes
  • Maintain and manage system inventory databases
Research:
  • Investigate and prepare recommendations on emerging technologies
  • Participate in teams researching specific hardware or software solutions
  • Test new hardware and software and provide deployment recommendations
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of IT trends and industry direction
Procurement:
  • Maintain hardware and software inventory systems
  • Recommend hardware and software standards for the organization
Training:
  • Provide informal technical training for infrastructure personnel
  • Offer consultation on general technical issues and potential solutions
  • Provide direction, training, and technical assistance to coworkers and agency staff
General:
  • Mentor and guide IT staff on assigned tasks
  • Provide technical support on application development tools
  • Assist in preparing the agency's IT plan and budget
  • Prepare and deliver formal presentations
  • Communicate with agency leadership regarding IT issues and projects
  • Ensure proper documentation is created and maintained

Starting hourly pay rate is $30.986.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Degree in Computer Science/IT and one year experience in a related area such as working with coding computer applications relational databases related business/technical experience involving application programming, software installation and maintenance, systems programming and online programming work. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred:

Experience with Juvare WebEOC, and Microsoft Products to include Active Directory, SharePoint and Teams.

Other:

Background/motor vehicle check will be required. Must have a valid driver's license.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of database back and recovery systems; operating systems and platforms; commonly used query language, etc.
  • Skill in writing computer programs for various purposes.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing; communicate information and ideas, both orally and in writing so others will understand.
