Job summary

Sylvania is seeking an IT Systems Administrator to maintain and secure district servers, cloud platforms, and endpoint devices. You will manage Windows Server environments, AD/ DNS/ DHCP, and Google Workspace, ensuring reliable services for students and staff.

The role requires strong troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration with vendors. Ideal candidates have 3+ years of IT experience and a solid understanding of IAM, MFA, and incident response.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT/CS or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of progressively responsible IT experience supporting servers, networks, cloud services, cybersecurity, or enterprise tech environments.
  • Experience administering Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, and related network services.
  • Experience administering Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, or comparable cloud-based systems.
  • Experience with endpoint management, system monitoring, backup, virtualization, patch management, and cybersecurity tools.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management, MFA, RBAC, and account provisioning.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex server, network, application, security, and user-account issues.
  • Ability to maintain accurate system documentation, diagrams, inventories, procedures, and change logs.
  • Protect confidential student, employee, financial, and district information.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license and be able to travel between District locations.
  • Ability to pass background checks and other employment requirements.
  • Experience with IT ticketing systems and documentation management processes.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures, administers, monitors, and maintains District servers, OS, storage, apps, and cloud services.
  • Manages Windows Server environments including AD, DNS, DHCP, file and print services.
  • Administers Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and other cloud platforms.
  • Creates, modifies, disables, and removes user accounts and security groups.
  • Maintains secure provisioning and deprovisioning of users.
  • Configures single sign-on and MFA; handles directory synchronization and app authentication.
  • Maintains virtual servers, backups, storage, DR systems, and related infra.
  • Monitors availability, performance, storage, event logs, and security alerts.
  • Installs OS updates, patches, firmware, and app upgrades.
  • Tests significant system changes before deployment; plans replacement for aging systems.
  • Administers endpoint-management for Windows, Chromebooks, mobiles, and district devices.
  • Develops device policies, security settings, and automated management procedures.
  • Supports secure deployment, reassignment, recovery, and retirement of district technology.
  • Maintains equipment inventories, licensing, warranties, and service agreements.
  • Implements cybersecurity controls per policy and best practices.
  • Administers MFA, endpoint protection, email security, web filtering, encryption, and vulnerability tools.
  • Reviews security alerts and logs for suspicious activity; assists with incidents and recovery.
  • Performs vulnerability scans and access reviews; maintains account hygiene.
  • Creates and maintains system documentation and SOPs; coordinates with vendors on projects.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education, technical training, professional certifications, and relevant work experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience supporting servers, networks, cloud services, cybersecurity systems, or enterprise technology environments.
  • Must possess experience administering Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, and related network services.
  • Must possess experience administering Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, or comparable cloud-based systems.
  • Must possess experience with endpoint management, system monitoring, backup systems, virtualization, patch management, and cybersecurity tools.
  • Must possess knowledge of identity and access management, multifactor authentication, role-based access, and account provisioning.
  • Must possess the ability to diagnose and resolve complex server, network, application, security, and user-account issues.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain accurate system documentation, diagrams, inventory records, procedures, and change logs.
  • Must possess the ability to protect confidential student, employee, financial, and district information.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license and be able to travel between District locations.
  • Must successfully complete all background checks and other employment requirements established by the District and the State of New Mexico.
  • Experience working with a IT Support ticketing system, and documentation management processes.
Preferred

Relevant professional certifications are preferred, including CompTIA Network+, Security+, Server+, Microsoft, Google, Cisco, Aruba, HPE, Fortinet, VMware, Veeam, ITIL, ISC2, or similar credentials.
