Job summary

City of Deer Park is seeking an IT Help Desk Specialist to provide first-line support for desktops, laptops, printers, phones and mobile devices. You will handle calls and walk-up requests, create work orders, and assist with deployments and basic training.

The role requires strong problem-solving, record-keeping, and independent judgment while following city policies and confidentiality rules. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, with an associate degree or IT cert preferred;

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or IT certification preferred.
• Previous customer service or technical support experience preferred.
• Good oral and written communication skills; ability to follow instructions.
• Knowledge of IT terminology and ability to troubleshoot common problems.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, and common software used in city IT.

Responsibilities

• Answer IT Help Desk calls and walk-up requests; create work orders and assist users or assign tasks.
• Provide first-level technical support for desktops, laptops, printers, phones and mobile devices.
• Basic troubleshooting of hardware, software, email, passwords, and network issues.
• Support Windows, Microsoft 365 and other city software systems.
• Maintain accurate records of support requests, resolutions, and inventory.
• Assist with workstation deployments, upgrades and equipment replacements.
• Provide basic training and guidance on technology best practices.
• Follow city IT policies and confidentiality requirements.
