Job summary

The Tulare County Information and Communications Technology Department seeks a Level I/II BI Developer to analyze business intelligence needs and collaborate with end users to deliver current and predictive views of operations.

You will gather and interpret data, test results, and communicate findings; produce reports with SAP Crystal Reports, Crystal Reports for Enterprise, SAP WebI, and SSRS, and contribute to dashboard design and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in BI, GIS, or CS or equivalent education as a guide.
  • 1 year of direct report-writing experience (Level I) with BI tools.
  • 2 years of direct report-writing experience (Level II) and dashboard design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business intelligence needs with end users and management from County departments.
  • Gather, analyze, interpret data, test results, and communicate findings to clients.

Job description

This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Tulare County Information and Communications Technology Department. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months. If interested in employment for this position for current or future vacancies, please submit an online application for consideration.

Current vacancy is with the Tulare County Information and Communications Technology Department (TCICT) located in Visalia.
Level I/II:
  • Work under supervision with end users and management from all County departments and other IT Business Intelligence Developers to analyze business intelligence needs. This analysis is used to provide current and predictive views of business operations.
  • Responsible for gathering, analyzing, interpreting data, testing, validating and communicating relevant results by collaborating with end user clients.
  • Produce reports with tools such as SAP, Chrystal Reports for Enterprise, SAP Web Intelligence, and/or Microsoft SQL Reporting Tools (SSRS).

Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.

Education:
  • Education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Business Intelligence, Geographic Information Systems, or other Computer Sciences.
Equivalency for Education:
  • Business Intelligence-related experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis if applicable.
Experience:
Level I
  • One (1) year of direct experience in report writing using tools such as: SAP Crystal Report Writer, SAPWebi, Microsoft Report Builder, Microsoft Access, and writing queries; working knowledge of data extraction and analysis.
Level II
  • Two (2) years of direct experience in report writing using tools such as: SAP Crystal Report Writer, SAP Webi, Microsoft Report Builder, Microsoft Access, and writing queries. Working knowledge of data extraction and analysis. One (1) year working experience with designing dashboards using tools such as SAP Dashboard Designer, Tableau, etc. One (1) year working experience with Universe Design.
Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices in business intelligence including data organization, statistical and planning analysis.
  • Organizational and management analysis methods.
  • Principles, capabilities, and limitations of information and communication technology systems.
Skill/Ability to:
  • Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.
  • Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment.
  • Apply the principles and techniques of data analysis, administration and management analysis to the gathering, organizing and interpretation of data.
  • Write queries from various data sources such Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Cache, Informix, etc.
License or Certificate:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
DESIRABLE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
  • Experience with SAP Enterprise Suite including Crystal Reports, Business Objects, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Ability to write SQL queries using TOAD or PLSQL.
  • Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP)
Conditions of Employment

Candidates selected may be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions.
