Job summary

Sonata Software is seeking an entry-level IT BI Engineer to join our BI team in Irvine, CA. You will develop reports, dashboards, data models, and data integrations to support business decision-making.

The role is ideal for candidates with a solid foundation in SQL, databases, data analysis, and BI concepts who want to build a career in BI and data engineering. Contract to hire with potential full-time conversion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
• MCA or relevant postgraduate qualification acceptable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; good communication and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain BI reports and dashboards.
• Write and optimize SQL queries to analyze data.
• Assist in ETL/ELT processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
• Work with databases and data warehouses to support reporting.
• Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks.
• Collaborate with Analysts, Developers, QA, and business users.
• Prepare technical documentation for reports and data processes.
• Participate in testing, deployment, and production support.

We arelooking for a motivated and analytical IT BI Engineer to join our BusinessIntelligence team. The candidate will work with business and technical teams to develop reports, dashboards, data models, and data integrations that supportbusiness decision-making.

This isan entry-level position suitable for candidates who have a good foundation inSQL, databases, data analysis, and BI concepts and are interested in building acareer in Business Intelligence and Data Engineering.

KeyResponsibilities

• Develop andmaintain BI reports and dashboards based on business requirements.
• Write and optimizeSQL queries to extract and analyze data.
• Assist indeveloping ETL/ELT processes for data extraction, transformation, andloading.
• Work withdatabases and data warehouses to support reporting requirements.
• Perform datavalidation, reconciliation, and quality checks.
• Assist senior BIengineers in developing data models and reporting solutions.
• Troubleshootreport, data, and integration issues.
• Understandbusiness requirements and convert them into technical reporting solutions.
• Prepare technicaldocumentation for reports, dashboards, and data processes.
• Participate intesting, deployment, and production support activities.
• Collaborate withBusiness Analysts, Developers, QA, and business users.

RequiredTechnical Skills

• Good knowledge ofSQL and relational databases.
• Basicunderstanding of Data Warehousing concepts.
• Knowledge ofETL/ELT concepts.
• Exposure to anyBI/reporting tool such as:

• Basic knowledge ofExcel including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
• Understanding ofdatabase concepts such as tables, joins, indexes, views, and storedprocedures.
• Basicunderstanding of data visualization and reporting concepts.

Goodto Have

• Knowledge ofPython for data analysis.
• Exposure to Azure/ AWS / GCP.
• Knowledge ofSnowflake, SQL Server, Oracle, or other databases.
• Understanding ofAPIs and data integration.
• Exposure to Git orother version-control tools.
• Academic projector internship experience in BI, Data Analytics, or Data Engineering.

EducationalQualification

• Bachelor's degreein Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, ora related field.
• MCA / relevantpostgraduate qualification is also acceptable.
