Job summary

Blue Cross of Idaho is seeking IT Applications Engineers to design, develop, and support software systems and infrastructure related to membership and billing. The role offers hybrid work at our Meridian, Idaho campus with potential for remote work from Mountain West for candidates outside Idaho.

Qualified candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in CS/EE/IS or equivalent, plus 1–2+ years of relevant IT experience. Skills in AI tools like Claude, Agile, ServiceNow, Jira, SQL, and Facets are preferred.

  • Applicable certification(s) as defined by the leader + 2 years additional experience
  • Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or closely related field of study + 2 years additional experience

Responsibilities

  • Configure, monitor, manage, and troubleshoot software systems, applications, and infrastructure.
  • Research, implement, monitor, patch, and troubleshoot various systems, software, and technologies.
  • Monitor application performance and preemptively address issues.
  • Develop tools and scripts to support CI/CD and release processes.
  • Automate software deployment and develop automation tools.
  • Ensure integrity of builds and artifacts.
  • Create test processes and validation strategies.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts.
  • Participate in full development lifecycle and documentation.
  • Review solution performance and assess health of software and systems.
  • Track and drive awareness of operational/technical risks.

Job description

Our IT Applications Engineers design, develop, maintain, support, document, test, and/or debug new and existing software systems, applications, and/or technical infrastructure related to membership and billing. Location: this position offers a hybrid work location (onsite at Meridian Idaho campus and local WFH). For candidates outside of Idaho, there may be opportunity for fully remote work location within the Mountain West.

Education must meet one of the following requirements:

Required Experience: preference for minimum 1-2/+ years relevant technical, IT analyst, and/or IT engineering experience to include skills and abilities such as:

  • AI Tools, such as Claude
  • Working within Agile practice framework
  • Prior health insurance knowledge
  • Facets knowledge
  • ServiceNow experience
  • Jira experience
  • SQL experience

Your day may look like:

  • Engineers, configures, monitors, manages, and troubleshoots software systems, applications, and/or technical infrastructure.
  • Researches, implements, monitors, manages, patch, and troubleshoot various systems, software, and/or technologies.
  • Monitors application performance by anticipating and correction operational issues before occurrence.
  • Develops tools and/or scripts to support and improve current software, systems, or technology build and release process and continuous integration and delivery initiatives.
  • Automates software deployment processes and develops automation tools.
  • Ensures the integrity of the builds and artifacts.
  • Creates test processes and procedures used to ensure that software operates within defined requirements.
  • Implements test plans, automation, and validation strategies.
  • Develops and maintains automated test scripts to reduce repetitive manual testing.
  • Participates in full development lifecycle including requirements analysis and design.
  • Writes technical specifications based on conceptual design and stated business requirements.
  • Supports, maintains, and documents software functionality.
  • Analyzes code to find causes of errors and revises programs.
  • May review solution performance and continually assess health of software, systems, and/or technologies.
  • Tracks and drives awareness to operational and technical risks

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range is $78,064 to 117,095 (Engineer I); $96,183 to $144,275 (Engineer II).

The position is eligible for an annual incentive bonus (variable depending on company and employee performance). The pay range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, travel requirements, internal equity, business or organizational needs, and alignment with market data. At Blue Cross of Idaho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for the position. Compensation decisions are dependent on factors and circumstances at the time of offer.
