The City of Newport Beach seeks a motivated individual to join the IT Department as a full-time IT Analyst (GIS). This position’s key duties include planning and communicating work tasks related to database creation and management, application development, and ongoing maintenance; reviewing current data and GIS processing techniques and updating them as needed; maintaining data integrity and accuracy of the City’s spatial information; editing, analyzing, and performing QA/QC tasks using GIS software.

About Geographic Information Systems (GIS):
  • Designs and maintains the enterprise GIS database, layers, and web-based applications;
  • Configures and maintains interactive maps, forms, and reports; provides map exhibits, geoprocessing, and geospatial analysis;
  • Designs and produces cartographic products; prepares maps and exhibits for presentations;
  • Provides system support for field data collection processes, including GPS and drone technology.
SCHEDULE:
  • This position may work a 5/40, 9/80, or 4/10 schedule.
SELECTION COMPONENTS:

  • Virtual Interview: Most qualified candidates, as reflected in their application, will be invited to a virtual interview tentatively scheduled for June 12, 2025. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list for future vacancies.

RETIREMENT:

Qualifications include:

  • Three years of professional experience in application development, database management, or IT support, with at least one year in administering Microsoft Server, Exchange, Active Directory, or related technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in management information systems, computer science, or a related field.
  • A valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.

Candidates will undergo a background check, including fingerprinting. A criminal record may not disqualify an applicant, depending on circumstances.
