Job summary

TEKsystems in Austin, TX is hiring Data Center Technicians for a contract-to-hire role supporting a large data center build. You will install and terminate fiber optic and cabling, read diagrams, and validate network performance with OTDRs and meters.

The position is fully onsite in Austin with a pay rate of $28 per hour. Candidates should have 1–3+ years of IT or cabling experience and knowledge of fiber standards and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• 1–3+ years IT or data center/cabling experience.
• Knowledge of structured cabling standards and fiber optic tech.
• Familiarity with HVAC, electrical backup, and fire suppression systems.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Low voltage experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic and structured cabling in data centers.
• Read blueprints, cable schedules, and network diagrams to meet timelines and specs.
• Use OTDRs, power meters, and VFLs to validate network performance and document results.
• Maintain daily reports, test results, and as-built documentation.
• Follow OSHA safety and PPE requirements on site.

Our customer is supporting a large data center build out in Burlington, TX is hiring multiple Data Center Technicians to join the team for a great long term opportunity!

Job Duties

• Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic and structured cabling systems (single-mode and multi-mode fiber) within data center environments, including rack-and-stack deployments, cable pathways, ladder racks, and fiber tray systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, cable schedules, and network diagrams while ensuring installations meet project timelines, quality standards, and client specifications.
• Utilize industry-standard testing equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and VFLs to validate network performance, maintain accurate labeling, cable management, and document all installation and testing activities.
• Communicate project progress, issues, and status updates to project teams, while maintaining daily reports, test results, as-built documentation, and project closeout records.
• Follow OSHA and site-specific safety requirements by identifying potential hazards, utilizing proper PPE, and maintaining safe work practices at all times.

Qualifications

• 1-3+ years of prior IT related experience with previous Data Center/Cabling experience.
• Knowledge of structured cabling standards and fiber optic technologies.
• Familiarity with environmental systems such as HVAC, electrical backup systems, and fire suppression systems.
• Low voltage experience is a big plus but not required.
• Prefer cabling experience (coax, fiber, cat5, cat6, punch downs, etc.) but not required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $28.00/hr.
