Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking entry-level Cable Technicians to support large-scale data center and structured cabling projects in Cedar Rapids, IA. This contract-to-hire role offers hands-on experience and a path to a long-term career in technology and infrastructure.

You will learn fiber optics and structured cabling, engage in site-safe practices, and grow into senior technician roles as you gain experience. Onsite work with potential travel and benefits support is provided.

Responsibilities

• Pull, route, and install Cat5, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling.
• Install outlets, surface-mount boxes, and low-voltage devices.
• Support cable pathways using trays, J-hooks, and other systems.
• Label, dress, and prepare cables for termination.
• Build telecom closets and equipment racks; organize cabinets.
• Assist with rack-and-stack projects in data center environments.
• Perform basic cable terminations and learn testing procedures.
• Follow safety standards and maintain a clean job site.

What You'll Do

• Pull, route, and install Cat5, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling
• Install outlets, surface-mount boxes, and other low-voltage devices
• Support cable pathways using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, and trapeze systems
• Organize, label, dress, and prepare cables for termination
• Build and organize telecommunications closets, racks, patch panels, and equipment cabinets
• Assist with rack-and-stack projects in data center environments
• Perform basic cable terminations and learn testing procedures
• Follow safety standards and maintain a clean, professional job site

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
